Anachronism with a name

In updating a song, I did a search for Lil' Wayne.
Two entries came back -
  • Dwayne Carter Jr.  nm9088586
  • Lil' Waybe nm1211443
My initial reaction was that these two entries needed to be merged as they are the same person.
Upon investigation, I found that the first name has only one credit:
The Bob Braun Show (TV Series)
Episode dated 20 May 1975 (1975)
In the entry itself, the credit is given as
Dwayne Carter Jr....Himself - Rap Artist (as Lil Wayne)
Now, as this episode was broadcast in 1975 and Lil' Wayne was not born until 1982 (IMDB bio/ Wikipedia), it is unlikely that this is the same person as Lil' Wayne.

I think that I should just remove the detail in the credit that indicates the link, like so -
Dwayne Carter Jr....Himself
However, lacking access to the original program, I am not sure whether the actor's name is actually Dwayne Carter Jr. or just Dwayne Carter.

Suggestions?

Perhaps the credit should just be deleted.

Hi Graham -

It's very likely that the credit belongs to a separate individual, and if that individual was credited on that show under the name "Lil Wayne" we will need to retain that aka attribute, even if there is a name page on the site for a separate rap artist of the same name.  If you are able to review a copy of the episode and can confirm that the credit is listed incorrectly, you are welcome to submit the applicable corrections.  However, if you are unsure, it's best to leave the credit listing as-is, as it was submitted by another contributor who may be more well-acquainted with that particular show.

It is surely not "very likely" that a person named Dwayne Carter appeared as a rap artist and was credited as Lil Wayne in a 1975 talk show.

While I don't have any personal knowledge of the episode in question, I agree with Peter.
Rap music was virtually unknown outside the Bronx in 1975. it seems very unlikely to me that a rap artist would have appeared on a local Cincinnati talk show in that year. It seems even less likely that there was another rapper with the real name Dwayne Carter Jr. and the stage name Lil Wayne at that time, seven years before the famous rapper Lil Wayne was born with the name Dwayne Carter Jr.
There may well have been a person named Dwayne Carter Jr. who appeared on "The Bob Braun Show" in 1975, but if so, he probably wasn't a rapper and probably wasn't using the name Lil Wayne.

I suspect that, at best, the person who submitted this credit to IMDb was mistaken. Still, I recommend that the staff contact the submitter and ask for clarification. Maybe there is a reasonable explanation.

Hi Peter and gromit82 -

Thanks for your feedback.  I have reached out to the contributor in question to clarify the name attribute associated with the credit, if we receive no response within a week our editors will then remove the credit.  Thanks for your patience and we'll confirm the status once we hear back from the contributor or within a week's time.  Cheers!
