The number exactly is undisclosed. IMDb does not publish the minimum number because it is constantly changing.
Today it could be 741. Later today it could be 822 or you name it.
The few hundred description is over 20 years old.
It would be my best guess that way over a thousand may be a better number to shoot for.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about the badge.

In my humble opinion, if you're fully committed to becoming a better reviewer, keep on writing.

I would like to add that this somehow is irrelevant, because some people play dirty, like this guy I just yesterday reported here (and I hope that this is the right place to do it):
https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/reporting-user-who-mostly-copies-from-other-reviews
So as long as some people just copy and paste thousands of reviews all around the web, I thnk you have little chance ever reaching the top 250.

I for myself will leave IMDB within this year not only for that reason but also because the quality of reviews within the last years has descended badly into opinionism and IMDB seems not to be bothered to do anything against it at all. Before going though, I just posted an idea of how to improve this system.
