When creating a new title or correcting spelling on an existing title, the system will not accept certain Baltic or Slavic characters like ones with háčeks or ogoneks. Letters under ISO-LATIN-2 are mostly the problem. Without these letters the resulting title would be misspelled. These letters can be entered fine in AKAs, why not in original titles?
Many alphabetic letters for other languages work fine, particularly all acute and grave accents for vowels (including ý, but no consonants), all umlauts (including ÿ), all tildes, cedilla ç, and of course all cyrillic letters, Scandanavian letters like å ø ð þ æ (but not œ), and even the German eszet ß. Even the Portugese superscript cardinals work a o.
But there are so many that are rejected, including the Polish ł, Hungarian double accents ő ű, characters with middledots ė ż, righthand accents ď ľ ť, acute accents on consonants ć ĺ ń ŕ ś ź, vowels with macrons ā ē ī ō ū, and even ring ů, as well as the aforementioned Slavic háček č ň ř š ž and ogonek ą ę.
One letter is not rejected outright but is simply force-changed to something different: Scandanavian œ becomes TWO letters oe (though æ works fine as is).
This gross omission needs to be corrected, otherwise the titles are misspelled or the movie can't be added to the database at all. Seems as though IMDb acknowledges western and northern European languages but leaves eastern Europe out in the cold. The cold war's been over for 30 years, isn't it about time you correct this situation?
