Live Poll: Big Screen Star Machines

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls026851929/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/78ftrlr9V3M/

Most stars of TV series come and go, some continue onto other television work, while a tiny few shine so bright that they go on to success on the big screen. So few actors make the leap from TV to film successfully that most TV series don't boast the creation of any movie stars but the shows below each contributed two or more talents who made it big on the big screen. Which TV series packed the most (movie-)star power?

No daytime soap operas
No mini-series or TV movies
No guest stars (only regular cast included)
No comedy skit series (such as "Saturday Night Live")
No actors who were already established big-screen stars before starring on a series.

Oh, I meant to note that no daytime soap operas would be included because there would be so many and I thought it would be too easy to miss some. I'll definitely add "Peyton Place," though. Thank you!

I would agree it is tough to make the transition from TV star to movie star. Most hit episodic prime time series that catapult their stars onto the big screen end in mixed results. The Office, Friends seem to have gotten work for most of their cast members. I might suggest listing  of those who had some success just to a lesser extent and just not on same level as a James Franco, Jennifer Anniston,Steve Carrell, etc. to show these full power of these shows.

I think the shows that really have been star machines are the afternoon soaps (both foreign and domestic), they seem to  have given everyone their start and  each have dozens of major stars who had an early role, Likewise, comedy skits shows like SNL and series listed on the IMDb TV Top 250 seem to produce more than its fair share of movie stars ie The Twilight Zone (1959), Finally, hit foreign-based productions and mini-series seem to be a good breeding ground with their stars making a dash for Hollywood soon after or in-between seasons..

Sherlock (2010)

Downton Abbey
Dan Stevens,

Lily James,

Jessica Brown Findlay
Hugh Bonneville,

Band of Brothers (2001)
Michael Fassbender ...  Burton P. (Pat) Christenson
Tom Hardy
...  John A. Janovec
Simon Pegg ...  William S. Evans

Game of Thrones (2011)
Best "Game of Thrones" Cast Connected Movie
Emilia Clarke
Maisie Williams
Kit Harington,
Sophie Turner
and others

Thanks, Urb. I'll add a few of the ones above. When I first started this, I decided against daytime soaps because there would be so many and they'd flood the list. I also thought the chances of me missing an actor would be too great. I'm also only including big stars for a similar reason: there would be so many. It was tough for me not to include David Morse from St. Elsewhere. He gets so much work and he's so good.

Oh, wow, your poll is so good. I remember it now. There are so many actors on there that I had no idea were on soaps.

I added Sherlock and Downton Abbey. They're good ones so thank you! I can't, unfortunately, add "Band of Brothers," even though I really want to, because I excluded mini-series. :(  I'm not sure about "Games" -- it seems that the ones you listed have several movies coming up and a few successes behind them but it seems a bit early to consider them "movie stars." Thoughts?

All are a good exclusions, it levels the playing field and would make good poll suggestions on their own anyways.

Thanks. Yeah, I have a "guest star" poll in the works just from one show. I love watching out for guest stars on re-runs who became successful big-screen actors.

Dan or Peter, if you happen to see this, could you possibly move, to the original post, the Exclusion Criteria listed above? And, if you don't mind, add "No actors who were already established big-screen stars before starring on a series." I guess I hadn't thought of them in any discernible way, quite yet, when I first posted this suggestion. Sorry and thank you.

This was fun, looking for shows. I found out that Paula Malcomson, who played J-Law's mom in the Hunger Games films also played her mom on Cold Case, her third role (J-Law, not Malcomson).

I think I may have the winner in My So-Called Life - Claire Danes and Jared Leto

Or else The Wire - Michael Kenneth Williams, Idris Elba, Aidan Gillen, Pablo Schreiber, Michael B. Jordan and Dominic West

Other suggestions:
Silicon Valley - Kumail Najiani and TJ Miller
Living Dolls - Halle Berry and Alison Elliot
Firefly - Summer Glau, Morena Baccarin and Nathan Fillion
Oz - JK Simmons, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and BD Wong
The Jeff Foxworthy Show - Haley Joel Osment and Jonathan Lipnicki (they were huge as kids, but right after this show)

Also, you need to put a space between John and Krasinski. :)

Yeah, I had fun too. :) That's pretty funny about Jennifer Lawrence and Malcomson. It's pretty cool coming across things like that. No wonder you're the master of FYCs, lol. You must have learned so much trivia by now!

'A lot of star power there; would "In Living Color" be considered a comedy-skit series? (I excluded them because SNL would have had more than a poll's worth on its own.)

Skins (UK): Nicholas Hoult, Kaya Scodelario, Dev Patel to pick three. (Also Daniel Kaluuya in a smaller role, and later also Jack O'Connell.)

Thanks, so much, everyone. I'm going to add most but it might take me a couple of days.

I'm still thinking of some that are tough calls -- like The Newsroom. Dev Patel counts but I'm wondering about some of the others, like Allison Pill. Of course, that show had some who were already big screen successes and they don't count. Still, there are grey areas and the cutoff has to be arbitrary, unfortunately. Anyway, everyone suggested some good ones so thank you and most will be added.

Personally I don't think Dev works - he became a movie star with Slumdog, not following Newsroom.

Oh yeah, thanks. I don't think the others count as movie stars any way -- well, not yet at least.
