Black films are often poorly rated on IMDB. People voting on this website are white for the most part and the result is a very low consideration toward films with a black cast or a black direction or production. It is very frustrating because I have seen many mediocre films with a good rating only because the majority of actors were white.
Imdb should change the way people vote and add a case that allows people to state their race when voting for a film and more efforts should be made to make the voting pool as diverse as possible. Knowing which race has voted for which film and
the exact process will permit to have a less biased opinion and a more globalised perspective.
Up to date, IMDB hasn't done anything to ensure that the ratings on this site are accurate and unbiased.
There are so many good blacks films here with poor ratings and that's a shame.

  • I'm feeling disappointed because again it shows that for small or big steps, there are still a long way to go.

Hi loolikyl0005,

IMDb ratings reflect the perspective of IMDb users and probably does not reflect the perspective of the population as a whole. The users of IMDb are predominantly males 18-29 years old.

Your idea may not have the effect that you intend. IMDb would have no way to verify the ethnicity of its users and would have to depend upon the honesty of its users to reveal their ethnicity. In other words, the ethnic background may not be accurate. Many users refuse to disclose their age and gender. I suspect that users would be less likely to disclose their ethnicity.

Note: I am a long time user of IMDb and not an IMDb staff member. My statement may not reflect the views of IMDb.

So you raced-based ratings to be weighed in favor of blacks over whites?
