Blatant Subjectivity Reappears in Keywords

Years ago, IMDb was concerned about rejecting subjectivity in keywords.  Now, that problem  has reappeared.  Previously, keywords like beautiful-woman and pretty-girl were universally rejected and banned.  Now, subjective adjectives (and personal judgments) have returned.  These keywords should be rejected -- keywords like sexy-woman, and anything that begins with slutty-, sleazy-, bossy-, sneaky-, vulgar-, etc., etc., etc.

Subjectivity should have little or no place in keywords.

I wonder if keywords like those are being added to works by the people who made them. What may be subjective to us may be objective in a fictional world. If the descriptions are explicitly used by a narrator, for example, perhaps they are legit and otherwise not legit. I don't know.

Hi Bradley Kent,

It all depends on the context - if sexy-woman is used in the right context (relating to the character) that it can be a legitimate keyword e.g. "Woman in Red" in The Matrix. If the submitter is merely applying it as a blanket judgement to the actor/actress who is in the title then this is against the policy.

The problem is:  Does the contributor know this context/policy?  I doubt it.  What is sexy to one person is repulsive to another.  These generalized value judgements reveal more about the contributor than they actually do about the content of the title.

P.S.  This was policy for years.  Why has it changed?

In the meantime, please keep in mind that policies can change over time.  Concerning keywords, the main purpose of keywords is to allow users to easily search and discover titles.  If there is a descriptive character keyword that is relevant to the context of the film (as Will mentioned above) we would allow this type of keyword as it may help users discover new titles on the site.  I hope this helps clarify!

I have been looking for cooking shows for preparing chicken thighs, but I cannot get any hits for creamy-thighs.

Strained funniness. You should search the keywords chicken-as-food, baking or cooking and possibly chicken-thighs.  Those are objective. Good luck at being funnier the next time,

My Rhode Island Red read you reply about chicken-thighs and was deeply offended as they are subjective descriptions about Mrs R.I. Red. How wude!
