This has happened before a few times but never has it been so annoying. I have never had an IMDB Pro account but no matter what I do I cannot click on any photos. Every time it redirects me to "would you like to start your free trial of IMDB Pro" actually no I would not, I would like to see the photo I clicked on... This has been the longest occurrence of this issue without me being able to see the photos. I have no idea what's going on but it's super annoying and I don't understand what the issue is.

Hi Cwluc,

I do not recall anyone reporting a problem like this before. As a result, this may take a fair amount of effort to diagnose the root cause of the problem and correct it. Since no one else has reported this problem, it is likely to be an issue on your end. However, it is still possible that others may have the same problems, but have not reported it. If that is indeed the case, let's hope these other users see these thread and confirm that this is not an isolated problem.

I will be asking some very basic questions. Since I do not know your level of computer knowledge I will keep the questions as simple as practical.

Do you have an IMDb account and are you logged in.

You've indicated whenever you click on a picture, you are redirected to IMDb Pro.

Does this problem occur for any pictures on the IMDb home page (http://www.imdb.com/)?
If so, which pictures?

Does this problem occur for any pictures on The Dark Knight (2008) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/)?
If so, which pictures?

If you did not encounter any problems with either of these pages, would you please post a link to a pages that does?

What kind of device are you using to access IMDb: a PC, laptop, tablet, smart phone or other device?

What company makes your device?

What operating system does our device use: Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, OS X, android, other operating system?

What web browser do you use: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari or other browser?

When is the last time that you cleared the history and cookies for your browser?

Have you tried using a different web browser?

If you have an IMDb account, does the problem occur when you are logged out? Does it happen when you are logged in?

Have you had problems with other web sites?

When was the last time that you performed a disk clean up on your device?

When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive?

Try accessing IMDb from a different computer. Many local libraries have computers available for public access. You may also ask a friend to use their computer to access IMDb.

Depending upon how you answer these questions, we may have other avenues to investigate.

Hmm, your questions got me to the root of the issue. I'm going to have to post on another forum. It has something to do with Adblock Plus. There are only two plugins that I have installed that are shared between all the browsers I have installed. I only noticed it about halfway down your list. I will write back when I have a resolution other than disabling the plugin. Thank you for the reply though. My apologizes on having you type all that. The list was actually helpful and it clearly forced my brain to get to the correct answer.

@Cwluc, it'd be interesting to know if you had set the site layout to the old style. See my replies/link to my own new help thread below.

I believe this got reported one time, since this board started...but I can't, for the life of me, seem to find it. Grrrr

It could be it got solved and was thought to be unlikely to recur and therefore removed??

I'll post back if I can remember any details or if I find the thread (that may have had one, perhaps two, replies...at least one from staff. It was not an ongoing conversation, though, beyond asking for details like an example of a page and which photos was clicked (but I recall the answer was, "it doesn't matter which, they all do it").

I'm having the same problem.

Whenever I click on actors' photos (the regular, available to the public ones), I get redirected to the IMDb Pro sign-up page https://secure.imdb.com/signup/index.html The same sometimes happens when trying to load message board posts.

My browser tries to force https connections where possible (for a reason!) and I'm thinking this might have to do with it.

PS: this has been happening for many months for me.

Kay,

Generally, it is better to start a new thread to report a problem, when the original problem reported in a thread is resolved. However, what you report may be related to the original problem.

Today is New Years eve, so you may receive a slower response than usual. I am another IMDb user, not an IMDb staff member.

I tried to replicate the problem, but was unable to accomplish that so far.

You stated that "My browser tries to force https connections where possible (for a reason!) and I'm thinking this might have to do with it."

What browser are you using? Do you have an application or add on that tries to force https connections or are you using setting in your browser?

Answering these questions may help isolate the problem.

When logged in:

http://www.imdb.com/ returns the expected IMDb home page.
https://www.imdb.com/ results in a connection timing out.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/ returns the page for The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/ results in a connection timing out.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000209/ returns the page for Tim Robbins
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000209/ results in a connection timing out.

When I click on Recommend me some of his films at the bottom of the page for Tim Robbins returns a the corresponding message board thread http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000209/board/nest/174243694?ref_=nm_bd_1
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000209/board/nest/174243694?ref_=nm_bd_1 results in a connection timing out.

Are you using an add-on called "HTTPS Everywhere"?
You can consider disabling its redirect rule just for IMDb.

Yes, HTTPS Everywhere is the add-on I'm using (with FF), and I'm aware I can change its settings but I'd rather not if possible.

After testing out a few things (I got different results on two separate machines with the same browser and plugin), it seems to me the bug is related to the old site layout... thus I'm now unsure if the problem has to do with https at all.

I'll create another thread which I'll link to from here for anyone interested.
