I can't unlink my IMDb account with my Facebook account no matter what I tried. I signed into IMDb using my FB info and all was fine up until I found out that clicking on the share button in the IMDb app posts to FB once I signed in instead of allowing me to share using the app of my choice like it used to do before I signed in. Before I had the option to share with WhatsApp, Twitter, etc. Basically I want to share the link to the movie with my boyfriend via WhatsApp like I used to but now am unable to do so after I signed into the app with Facebook. So I signed out of IMDb thinking that should solve it but even when I wasn't even signed on, the app still shares only to FB when I clicked share.

I also deleted the permission for IMDb on my FB as you suggested on your Help page. Now IMDb isn't even listed in the app list on my Facebook profile but that didn't do solve the problem. I even went so far as to clear the data and the cache in the IMDb app on my phone. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Nothing works! Can you please help?!?

My device information:
- SM-N910C
- samsung
- en_US
- OS 23

Also I tried creating an IMDB account using the same email address with Facebook to see if I can unlink it somehow on the desktop version. I went to site settings under my profile and went to share settings and it says my Facebook account is linked but I can't unlink it since it doesn't even show up on my Facebook!

The most ridiculous part is how can the IMDB app shares to my Facebook when I'm not even signed in! HELPPPPP!

Hello Trassa,

Based on your post, it sounds like you may need to clear the default app settings stored in your device, by following these steps:

1. On your device, go to Settings
2. Choose Applications
3. Choose Default Applications
4. Tap Clear next to the Facebook app

Please let us know if we can offer any further assistance.

This only works the first time where I got the option to share via several apps back BUT if I choose to share via FB from then on it once again becomes the only option even when I'm not signed in with FB. I think it's because my IMDb account is still linked to FB in settings? Can you please unlink it for me? As I said in my post, I can't unlink it because IMDb is not even listed in my app list on FB! I even turned FB platform off completely once but IMDb was still sharing ONLY to FB.

Here's the latest and greatest. I went to clear the default for FB again after it became the only option. Then I chose to share a movie via WhatsApp. That was fine. Then I wanted to share another movie via another app. That's when I saw WhatsApp is now the ONLY option instead of FB! Surely I'm not meant to go and clear defaults of each app each time I choose to share with it, right?!?

More info...this issue is true for other apps as well where whatever I shared with ONE time will become the default for sharing going forward. I swear it wasn't like this before because I used to get provided with all the options for sharing EACH time. I don't know if any of this has to do with me stupidly trying to sign in with FB or not but now it has gone bonkers. In either case, can you please unlink my IMDb account from FB anyway?

Hope you can fix this issue for me. It's annoying.

The sharing issue seems to be an app issue not related to linking to FB because I tested this out on my boyfriend's Samsung J7 and my mom's Samsung J2 and got the same thing. Both of them don't have an IMDb account and never signed in with FB.

And still can't unlink to FB so please don't forget to remove that for me too.

Thank you for the additional information, Trassa.

I've investigated this issue with a local Samsung device, and can confirm (as you mentioned above) that this default sharing app selection functionality happens with multiple various apps on all Samsung devices, not only our IMDb app.

Therefore, it appears that this issue is related to the settings within the Samsung device, not your IMDb account or application.

I recommend reaching out to Samsung support here:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

for further assistance disabling the default app selection.

Thank you for your understanding.

Out of curiosity, which other apps did you try where you experienced the same issue? I tried on Pinterest and FB and they were fine.

Thank you for your reply, Trassa.

In addition to the IMDb app, I've been able to reproduce this with the Google Chrome app as well (launches IMDb app when clicking IMDb titles instead of a new Chrome page, launches Gmail app when clicking an email address instead of the built-in Email application).

Please know that your Facebook account linkage will not affect the issue you are experiencing, as this is being caused by the Samsung device's default settings.

If you still wish to unlink your Facebook account from your IMDb account, please ensure that you have followed these steps:

1) go to https://secure.imdb.com/register-imdb/sharing and verify that your accounts are connected (if the accounts are linked, the page will display a link to your Facebook account)

2) Go to your Facebook page and click on the 'Account' link in the upper right corner of the page

3) Select 'Account Settings' from the Account menu

4) Click on 'Apps' in the left-hand side column to display a list of apps you have authorized

5) Find the IMDb application in the "Logged in with Facebook" list

6) Select the 'Remove App' option and confirm

7) Go back to https://secure.imdb.com/register-imdb/sharing and reload. The page should now display a 'Login with Facebook' button instead of a link to your Facebook account, confirming that the connection has been removed.

Please let us know if we can offer any further assistance.

Yes, I realized this issue has nothing to do with linking to FB as my mom and my boyfriend never signed in with FB.

As mentioned multiple times, I have followed the steps you provided but cannot unlink from FB because IMDb is not listed in FB under apps! Steps 4, 5, 6 cannot be done; thus, I cannot unlink from FB. Can you do something "behind the scene"?

This guy had the same problem but for other reasons and appatently you guys were able to solve it for him.

Also as I've mentioned before, I even turned FB Platform off completely to stop integration with all apps but still can't unlink the account. Can you please unlink it for me?

Thank you for the additional information; the screenshots are tremendously helpful for us to be able to investigate.

I have attempted to remove the Facebook authorization from "behind the scenes" as well, but it appears that you are still experiencing the issue of it showing that your Facebook account is connected.

I've forwarded this information to our technical team for further investigation.

We will reply to this thread as soon as we receive more information.

Thank you in advance for your patience!

I did clear the cache too earlier before I reported the problem, but it seems to have been fixed now. This means my account is unlinked, right?

Finally! Thanks! Unfortunately, the sharing issue remains but thanks for letting me know you were able to duplicate the issue with other apps.
