When attempting to add a foreign language film title, the characters are rejected as "not supported". I have tried all the attributes referring to cyrillic in the attribute drop down menu

Hi John,

That's odd, are you copy pasting the text from another website? It is possible that this is affecting our submission interface. Have you got a link to the title in question and any supporting evidence to confirm the data and I can take a look?

Hello, the film in question is : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1945228/

Supporting evidence of the Ukrainian name: https://planetakino.ua/movies/voyage_of_time_lifes_journey/
(you can also Google this name and find links to several other Ukrainian cinema sites advertising the film)

I already tried various ways to switch characters sets or coding but these didn't work either.

Thanks John, it doesn't seem to work for me either. I've added the data internally under the correct attribute though - (Cyrillic KOI8-R title) which should go live on the title shortly.

The original Cyrillic KO18-R title should only be used if the film is Ukrainian and was originally released under that Cyrillic title.

Regards,
Will

Hi Will, it seems that something went wrong. This is how the alternative titles appear at the moment:

Hi John,

It is now fixed, it seems as if there was some issue with one of the characters which we've now resolved.

Guys, it isn't fixed - there's just substituted latin "i" symbol for ukrainian "і", which IS NOT supoorted by KOI8-R charset (there are other characters in ukrainian that are not part of KOI8-R, like "ї", "є", "ґ"). The easiest fix would be to to either change input filed encoding from KOI8-R to KOI8-RU, which also covers Belarussian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KOI8-RU), or to add one more encoding - KOI8-U (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KOI8-U).

This isn't the first time this question is raised, but it never got fixed, as a result currently there are lots of ukrainian titles set with some ukrainian (cyrillic) characters substituted by their latin alikes, which obviously doing bad thing for search engines - a search for ukrainian title with mentioned above characters will never guide you to imdb.com.

Just think about it. So, is it really "fixed"?

Thanks for the additional information yukoff, that's very helpful. I've cut a ticket for our technical team to investigate.

Thanks Peter. Yukoff I've checked with our technical team and this is indeed the case. As stated by Col on this previous thread we can't do any more to resolve this for now, please use i for the time being.

Sorry Will, but substituting just a single problematic character is not an option - just as I said before there are other characters (є, ї, ґ as for ukrainian) not covered by KOI8-R, also there are belarussian charactrs not covered by it.

Hi yukoff,

I appreciate that but as stated by Col this isn't likely to get prioritised at any point soon given our current system restraints. You can add it as a new idea on Get Satisfaction though, that way other users can vote on your suggestion and it can be prioritised accordingly.

Apologies,
Will
