I can't find a movie, please help me!! Couldn't find it here nor wikipedia, nor among any army/navy movies listed on the net. :(
I only have a short flashback about a movie. Here we go:
- it's about the us navy or army (can't remember) dismounts somewhere (japan, hawaii, unfortunately can't remember), and they have only a couple of days left
- the story begins night (the moon is up), with a couple of drunk military men standing on the beach. contest from the bartender: 2 of them are racing (running) to retrieve the american flag from a small hill nearby. one of them (the faster who gets there) refuses to climb up on the pole but kicks it hard and the wooden pole breaks. after he has the flag (not only the fabric but the broken pole too), runs back, but the other1 hits him a couple of times and tries to get the flag to take it back and win. he succeeds, and retrieves the flag to the others (still on the beach), stabs the broken flagpole in the sand. the reward was a beer or something, nothing mayor (if I remember correctly)...
This is so far the first 3 to 5 minutes from the movie (first scene) and that's all I have in mind. No major actors (like De Niro or etc...) were involved.
I saw it somewhere between 1995 and 2001 on HBO. Not sure if the movie was in cinemas or only in TV.
