Career Opportunity at IMDb?

IMDb relies heavily on the enthusiasm, passion and knowledge of countless fans to contribute to its database. These fans do so as volunteers in their free time because they love films, TV and video games.

I know IMDb has a jobs section

http://www.imdb.com/imdbjobs/

but I was wondering if there's any opportunity to be hired solely to contribute content and moderate submissions?

No doubt if such a position were publicly known there would be a huge amount of applications (it sounds like a fun and satisfying job)

Not that I expect a direct response from Col himself but for what it's worth if there were an opportunity I think I should be worth considering. I'm not an average candidate.

1. One of my areas of expertise is voice acting; whether it be for TV cartoons, animated films, video games and anime (English dubs and Japanese).

Currently in my spare time I help manage BTVA which is a database for voice acting.

I've been with BTVA since 2009 as an Administrator.

Compared to other mediums I've noticed that anime pages on IMDb in particular are often incomplete and I feel I could help improve this area of the site significantly. If I worked for IMDb I believe I would be a lot more efficient in filling out missing data and removing incorrect info or duplicate entries instantly vs. waiting for my submissions to be approved several days (or weeks) later.

Since I contribute info to BTVA after verifying various sources and keep records of them, it would require no extra effort on my part to research or verify the information again when working on the IMDb page(s) since I've already done it vs. someone else who would have to do it for the first time or just copy/paste what is posted elsewhere (basically piggybacking off of what I probably did first)

I'm also an Anime Database Moderator at MyAnimeList (since 2010)

I've also contributed to Anime News Network's database since 2009 (I'm jacksonh with more than 11,000 contributions)

Long story short, I'm very good at what I do. Each database is different and has their own guidelines but I'm a fast learner and can adapt very quickly to new changes or upgrades.

2. I am half British and would be willing to relocate to the UK if I was required to work at HQ over there if working from my current home wasn't possible.

3. I've been an IMDb member for 11 years and have contributed thousands of things to IMDb's database.

I'm familiar with IMDb's rules & guidelines; not like I just recently registered and have zero contributor experience. I have a long track record and I would hope I have proven to be reliable and trustworthy.

4. I have no problem working long hours or random shifts every day. It doesn't feel like 'work' for me. After doing this for so many years it's basically second nature. I wouldn't demand an outrageous salary; so long as I can support myself (monthly rent, basic needs e.g. food + internet) I'm comfortable with fair compensation.

I'd be surprised if I got a response. I doubt these type of positions are often available and probably don't want to be widely publicized. And if they are you probably hire within the company or friends & family of existing employees who are referred get the first chance.

I'm currently looking for a new job so I thought why not try? 1% chance is better than not trying at all.

Thanks for asking about this.  We do post all jobs on http://www.imdb.com/imdbjobs/  and/or https://www.amazon.jobs/

We do not typically have any positions on staff to enter content directly, however, we have many roles which involve moderating the content entered by contributors through the online interfaces.  At the present time these are mostly based in Bristol, but this could change over time as we seek to provide better coverage around the clock.

The role for which you would want to keep watch is "Data Editor" and we do indeed have vacancies at the moment in Bristol, see the link to https://www.amazon.jobs/en/jobs/561338/multilingual-content-data-editor-inc-weekends  however in this particular case we are expanding our international content moderating expertise so fluency in languages outside of English is required per the job description.  If you are qualified and are willing to relocate then please feel free to apply.

This is incorrect. Please note that IMDb is a subsidiary of Amazon.com and complies with all applicable laws with respect to advertising roles, and providing an open recruitment process for candidates.  Please see https://www.amazon.jobs/en-gb/faqs for details of compliance and equal opportunities for all qualified candidates.
