In the continuation of this topic (couldn't reopen it to add the question).

I think that clarification in docs would be useful for most new users.

So, my questions are:
How the changes to help guides are applied? Who can change the docs?

For example, instead of
We use the original title of a movie/show in its original language as it appears on screen in the opening credits.
it should be added something like

For technical reasons it may be impossible to add a title in its original language. If you affected with this problem, we encourage you to use the following approaches:
- if English title is available (official distribution, etc.), use this title and specify original title as alternative title (AKA).
- if English title is not available, use transliteration.

IMDb has a data team which determines policy and edits the help pages about data. Some of them read this forum.

The current policy about using transliteration is stated here in the title format guide in the section ‘Capitalization and character sets’:
https://help.imdb.com/article/contrib...

The part about character sets could perhaps be more prominent. I think the bullet point/headline structure has been lost in edits.

Hi both,

Thanks for the suggestions and apologies for the confusion. I've added the character set for primary titles into the adding a new title guide now.

The character set of all primary titles is ISO-LATIN-1. Original titles using other character sets (ISO-LATIN-2, Chinese pictograms, Cyrillic letters etc.) must be transliterated to ISO-LATIN-1. If you are unsure about the rules to follow check examples from the same country to see how it's done. For titles in Russian, there is a special guide available.

Regards,
Will
