Hi. I was communicating with Col Needham on Facebook yesterday and mentioned an issue I've been trying to solve on my feature film's IMDB PAGE.
He suggested the best way to resolve would be to post a conversation on this board.

My film is called ALTERED MINDS (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2124959/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)  It was released theatrically and on VOD on November 18th, 2015, but the release date says 2013 on the top of my film's page.

The film never came out in 2013 so this has been very misleading to the industry and the press. As a matter of fact, my frustration reached a head a few weeks ago when a radio interviewer asked one of my cast members "Why has the film been around so long?" This incorrect release date has also impacted the industry's perception of my film being "old" such that my distributor, Gravitas, has had to explain to platforms like Netflix that the film is still "new"

I would so much appreciate if you could change the date from 2013 to 2016.

Thank you.

Michael: Looking at http://web.archive.org/web/20131208021806/http://hollywoodfest.com/films/2013-films/narrative-featur..., isn't the film listed there as The Red Robin and shown at the 2013 Hollywood Film Festival the same film which was later retitled as Altered Minds? (See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2124959/releaseinfo.)

It also appears to be listed as The Red Robin in the schedule of the 2013 Montreal World Film Festival. (See http://web.archive.org/web/20131007023354/http://www.ffm-montreal.org/en/home.html and click on "Movies Schedule", then look for it on August 24.) Hi and thank you for your quick response!

In both instances, the film was shown "Out-of-Competition" but regardless, the date at the top of my film's page is 2013 and underneath in smaller font is 2015.   Most people in the industry assume that the large date is when the film was released, not finished.  The film was initially called Red Robin but then Gravitas picked us up in july 2015 and renamed the movie. In addition, we also recut the film so that the movie which was seen at Montreal and Hollywood was different.

I would so appreciate if you could make this change as it really has impacted the perception of my movie being older than it is.

Thank you!

The release date is when the film was first shown to an audience whether on or out of competition.

Canada 24 August 2013 (Montréal Film Festival)
USA 18 October 2013 (Hollywood Film Festival)
USA 28 April 2014 (Newport Beach International Film Festival)
USA 17 October 2014 (Woodstock Film Festival)
USA 20 November 2015

And that is what I'm disagreeing with and would ask Col Needham to change.  The release date is when a movie comes out in the marketplace.  To the film industry and people in general, when they ask you when was it released, it's never the first screening.  As a matter of fact there are plenty of titles on IMDB--both indie and studio that have release dates in parenthesis that accurately reflect when the film came out and doesn't include the festival screenings.

Could you please show this email and my appeal to Col Needham and ask if he can change the main date in parenthesis to 2015.  Again, this is affecting the business of my film...perception in the industry is everything...as a matter of fact, many platforms grab 2013 as release date of the film and again, that hurts our bottom line.

I appreciate if IMDB could seriously consider my situation.

Best,

Mike, I am not a member of IMDb staff. I am one of the thousands of helpers here.
I think you will find IMDb will not change the date from 2013 to 2016 as the film was first shown to an audience in 2013.
The release date on DVD I see is 2016 on Amazon.

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately our two helpers are correct and we will retain the title year as listed to correspond with the IMDb policies.

Thank you for understanding.
