Commenting on 'movie lists' on the IMDb site requires Facebook?

Curious why you can't comment on different movie lists without logging in with Facebook?

I.e.- I was looking at a list of 'all' Golden Harvest Productions.. and it was missing a key film... curious why I need to log in through facebook to comment about said film.
(for the record, I was already logged in to my IMDb account)
I've wanted to comment on numerous lists in the past, but I guess this time it finally got to me enough to find out what the deal is...

All messaging boards were shifted to Facebook a few years back. It allows more worldwide exposure.

well that's sad to hear... there's a large majority that doesn't even use Facebook anymore... Kind of a two edged sword, it might 'allow' for more exposure, but it also prevents it in cases like mine.
Crazy a site would actually limit it's users based on their involvement on a separate site...
I guess my wanting to be an active member on IMDb is a lost cause. Makes me question what setting up the account was for.

Well dang, seeing the literal numbers actually make it easier to understand! although they don't acknowledge users as being active or not...

I still think it's silly though, glad I don't have to have a Facebook account to comment on the other 99% of websites I'm active on. My Google account seems to be sufficient for the majority.

maybe I just don't fully understand the true connection between the two.
