Hi Mecki,

This is a mistake on our part. I've now removed the attribute from the credit.

Thanks,
Will

Hi, Mecki and Will:

Despite covering fewer categories of data, one of the advantages of the current contributor datasets  over the older ones is that it is now possible to look for instances of crew credits with (as...) attributes where the primary name is identical to the AKA.

As of 9 Sep 2019 there are only 18,441 such credits (out of 81,747,223 crew credits) [0.023%]. These entries belong to 5,846 different names and are spread among 16,772 different titles, being Trouble in New Castille the clear champion...

Back to names, here's the list with those that currently have 15 or more unneeded (as...) attributes within their crew credits. I've submitted updates to get rid of the first 20 names' attributes (see contribution numbers below); if all of them are approved, 4,247 entries (of 18,441 ~ 23%) will be corrected. If some fellow contributor wanted to collaborate (easy Col-points! ), I'd advise you to use the following URL: https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=nm???????:crew.correct.all (replacing nm??????? with the nmconst of the name you want to edit); also, some browser extension to quickly delete the unneeded attribute could be useful:

  • 754 attribs: nm6640588 ~ Jason Brown [190914-071710-194000, 190914-072120-939000, 190914-072257-369000 & 190914-072427-629000]
(the system didn't let me correct everything by a single submission, so I had to send multiple, cumbersome and laborious updates, which also took several tries until the system confirmed they've been sent without receiving the error message below... every failed submission generates a contribution number, though, that appears as a "Submitted Update" in the contribution history... e.g. the first submission for this Jason Brown shows up 5 times!! [as if I had sent 1,000 items instead of 200; I just hope those 800 duplicates don't count as mistakes and affect my reliability as a contributor...]; same thing happens with many of the other updates... it's extremely frustrating)

  • 738 attribs: nm4714841 ~ Sam Kaufmann [190914-072703-872000, 190914-073220-737000, 190914-073346-255000, 190914-073517-990000, 190914-073651-789000, 190914-073824-453000 & 190914-073853-178000]

(for this person it was literally impossible to process (let alone submit) more than 30 corrections at once without error... exasperating...; I spent more than two hours to do something that shouldn't take more than 5 minutes)

They will not tell you or not what that threshold is.
I have seen only one person that was banned from contributing (Suspended User Account) and banned from Get Satisfaction for contribution blunders in the whole year I have been here. But that does not mean there are not more we are not aware of.

It would be nice to know how many volts are in your particle weapon, so to speak.

My point is that they should never have been rejected in the first place and were subsequently accepted. So an explicit answer as to whether submissions that are then subsequently accepted are counted negatively against someone I think is a valid question.

I've only ever submitted things I believe fully to be correct. That isn't to say I'm always right because I've been wrong on some or formatted them wrong, but of the rejects I've had I'd guess at least 85%-95% are ultimately accepted.

If items that are rejected and should not have been count negatively which then makes subsequent submissions more difficult is not an acceptable set of business rules. Especially in this case when ON THEIR FACE these should have been accepted which means if the bot did it, then the bot is programmed wrong. If a person rejected it, then please find out what the person thought was wrong when there was an explanation as to what it was for every individual item saying that was just correcting as attributed credits that were the person's name which one only has to look and read. Did they reject it without bothering to give any consideration to the effort put into it?

I just submitted another 200. I wonder if they will go thru or not. The shame is that this could be programmed to be automatically accepted whereas it seems they're programmed to automatically reject.

Fortunately only 8 were rejected, but they shouldn't have. Submit at your own peril as obviously something is wrong when these get rejected.

Stupid imdb just rejected over 200 more. Why I put myself through this I don't know. I should beat myself with a stick and save them the trouble.

Here I sit having submitted over 600 corrections in the past 3 days and over 400 being rejected. Not giving a real good explanation from imdb, so I feel no desire to submit anymore. So imdb wants people to do their work, but they treat them like crap (Will did apologize which I appreciate), but I'd like to know why they were rejected so that it won't happen again.

It makes me very sad that you have so much trouble getting these submissions accepted. Could it be possible that the system is having an overkill when there are too many corrections submitted at once?

I don't know. I've asked for reasons, but none have been given. I wish I knew. I also see other posts where others have had issues. The shame of this is that this is something that could be programmed to be accepted if imdb really cared - that is if they couldn't just fix them themselves. But it sux having had about 500 rejected and given no specific reason as to why.

I say that they are well aware of the problem, but most likely they have instructions not to discuss it. At least some of them would like to but are not allowed to.

I try to accept that. I try to look at it as a video game. There are obstacles. One has to find a way to reach the goal. Sometimes to find the goodies one might have to go through walls (which just look like walls).

At the moment I am trying to focus on the time of day when I submit the requests. Yesterday, two requests for 15 identical corrections were accepted within a few minutes. An hour later, a similar request remained unprocessed (currently 12 hours). Maybe it was after official service closure.
My corrections that were declined two days ago were most likely submitted too late in the day also (I already posted these problems separately).

The aforementioned unprocessed request was now also declined. Therefore I posted the problem separately - like the others before:
