Could we help ensure that Poll Suggestions are identified?

Hello, Dan Dassow and the poll-suggesting bloc of the IMDb Community.

Let me start by expounding upon the little known fact that I very frequently make use of the Really Simple Syndication (RSS) service provided by Get Satisfaction, for identifying newly-created topics or recently-active topics. Unfortunately, this particular mechanism does not provide a way to filter the results by category, and unfortunately I'm not always interested poll-related topics (since they are not exactly top priority), so I generally rely upon the classic indicator "Poll Suggestion", "Suggestion", "PS", "Just for Fun", "JFF" or "Live Poll" appearing at the beginning of the subject headings of poll-related topics, but sometimes I wind up getting tricked, so to speak, because I don't always carefully read the content of the post (which is available in the unabridged display of the feed).

I don't know how many forum administrators the IMDb Poll category has, but I would be great if they, upon noticing, edited the subject headings of threads in which the respective creators thereof forget to supply the "Poll Suggestion" indicator. Meanwhile, I will try to remember to read the content of the feed more carefully. If it would not be too much trouble, everybody should please follow the guidelines regarding Poll Suggestions and please help see to it that they are followed.

Post Scriptum: On a side note, it seems to me that the forum may be expanding and becoming more busy; so at some point, it may be a good idea if some volunteers would serve as "substitute teachers" for the forum's most active responders, whenever needed. You might have noticed that I was providing feedback for a lot of polls for the span of a couple of months, a month or two ago, but that I've slowed down. This is partly due to how steadily busy the other categories of the forum seem to have become. There are bound to be times when one person cannot reply to every topic on this forum, in a timely manner. Who knows? Maybe there should be an actual Poll Suggestion submission form (or template) of some kind. I would suggest that the IMDb company hire more paid staff members too, but I get the feeling that the company is not ready for that, since new recruits have to be not only vetted for qualification but also undergo some level of training. Automated tools may be the key to solving some problems, though.

I sometimes add the Poll Suggestion header, add/remove category tags, etc.

I think any user with admin rights can edit these things if they want to, but Dan and I keep a particular eye on the poll section.

Would it help if the headers were more consistent, e.g. "Poll Suggestion" instead of "PS"?

I would prefer "Poll Suggestion", but "PS" is fine too. I'm concerned about some kind of indicator being absent altogether.

All Polls and only Polls are there (... and Lists waiting to be Polls...)

Not mixed in with Ideas | Praise...

Hi, ACT_1. That's a fine idea, but it wouldn't make a difference in the RSS feed.

ACT_1, there must be something wrong with your operating system or your network connection, because Internet Explorer is more than capable of handling RSS.

I don't know for sure, but I strongly suspect that even Internet Explorer on Windows XP can accommodate RSS feeds, whereas for a system with older software probably cannot. You've not been using Windows 95 all these years have you, ACT_1?

Interesting. Well, private browsing is not likely to be the culprit.

@Jeorj Euler,

I used RSS feeds on Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 98. I suspect it would also work on Windows 95, since RSS was originated in 1995.
