Could the default View type of the Message Boards get changed from thread to flat (or nest) ?

"Thread" displays the thread with only the starting post uncollapsed so that you'd have to click on each reply separately to read. This is of course very tedious and makes the forum look very oldish.
As you can switch the view-type to flat which makes it display in the common forum style this isn't any problem but it took me long to take notice of these buttons and new users visiting the boards (maybe just once) probably won't either.

You can set your personal default on "Your Boards Profile" page. You can set:
Display Preferences
* Default Sort:
* Threads Per Page:
* Messages Per Thread:
* Thread Display Mode:

You can get to "Your Boards Profile" page from your Account page (https://secure.imdb.com/register-imdb...) or your Profile page (http://www.imdb.com/profile).

Thank you! Just did this, though that's not really what this post was about as it's still not set by default for everyone (including unregistered users).

But the point is, this is a personal preference - I personally prefer the nested view (as it shows who replied to who) but wouldn't want to force that on anyone else.

I assume the flat view was chosen at the time to reduce server load and/or speed up page loads, back in the early days of the Internet when this was essential. It may also hark back to its earliest days on newsgroups. Which isn't an argument for it, it might be an argument for a change, so perhaps I need a suggestion to make the nested view the default (or the only one).
