I ran across this ad in the Nashville, TN talent gigs...and if it's anything more than pure scammy spam than IMDb should rain holy fire down on this fool (or at least pull the said 20 "films" out of the database)

Boost your IMDB overnight ! 20 Credits now ! (nashville tn)

compensation: no pay

Hello filmmakers, actors, and producers.

Ok, so I am currently offering people TWENTY IMDB credits / titles / listings immediately. If you happen to be a producer, or maybe a production assistant, or even something else in the film world, i can really boost your imdb profile with TWENTY film / production titles as early as tonight/tomorrow.

I am also a film director , and a writer/editor. Over the years have done over 50 films myself and i am trying to get some new posters up for a few of the titles. They cost about 40 dollars a piece.

I need at least twenty or so posters.

So here's what i am offering to those interested.

I am offering TWENTY imdb film listings on your profile for only 80 bucks. All the money i raise will be put toward my 20 films and in return i will graciously credit you as a producer , or a production assistant, or job of your choice(upon discussion via phone)

I am perfectly able to do this as anyone that contributes money to a film is able to be considered as a producer or a production assistant.

Some of my films have some celebrity / star names attached also.

I am 100% percent REAL and i also have these listed on ebay as well. My feedback is 100 percent !!

I can also call you to discuss which films you want to be credited on.

If your looking for an additional type of credit under a different category then lets talk as well and see what can be arranged.

We can do the transaction through ebay if you feel safer or we can go thru paypal after we chat on phone. Whichever you prefer.

If IMDb doesn't do anything about it, I recruit all of you ACTUAL filmmakers and actors to at least flame his email and give him a piece of your mind.  CREDITS ARE NOT BOUGHT, and it can be misleading and dangerous on set to have people on the crew that lied their way in without proper training.

Hi Billy Gomes,

Thank you for reporting this scam. IMDb makes adjustments to their StarMeter and MovieMeter algorithms to filter out attempts inflate rankings. IMDb also verifies credits before adding them to the database.

I reviewed the page you reference in your post:
ttp://nashville.craigslist.org/tlg/4925809688.html

The key phrase in this Craigslist post is:
I am offering TWENTY imdb film listings on your profile for only 80 bucks. All the money i raise will be put toward my 20 films and in return i will graciously credit you as a producer , or a production assistant, or job of your choice(upon discussion via phone)
Since this offer on Craigslist is clearly fraudulent, I recommend that you report this activity to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You may also wish to recruit ACTUAL filmmakers and actors to report this to the FTC. As you correctly point out CREDITS ARE NOT BOUGHT, and it can be misleading and dangerous on set to have people on the crew that lied their way in without proper training.

I'm considering reporting this activity myself. However, I am not in the film or television industry and would have a hard time establishing standing and harm.
