Create a separate forum for 'Word Association' threads?

This conversation is no longer open for comments or replies and is no longer visible to community members. The community moderator provided the following reason for archiving: IMDb boards

As a recent temporary participant in some Word Association threads, I've taken note of complaints from some other users who'd prefer not to see W.A. threads in Watercooler.

(In that discussion, someone recalled that some controversy arose when Word Association threads were moved to an existing Games forum.)

Would creation of a new forum, titled "Games: Word Association," be satisfactory?

Please discuss....

I'm down. It's fine when there's one. I'll tolerate two. I don't understand why we need more than that. Six is ludicrous. It's just a thread where people use single word replies. Why more than one is ever necessary, I don't think I'll ever understand.

If it is truly a worthwhile endeavor to keep multiple word association games active at all times, than a separate games sub-forum would surely be a logical alternative to what we have now.

Why does this need to be done at all on "Internet Movie Database?"

Surely resources for something so useless could go toward, oh, say, some sort of film information feature. Just spitballin' here.

Although the following factoid may be silly, it's true:

A Movie-related W.A. thread helped me 'discover' a couple of interesting films that I hadn't known about.

I then bookmarked those films that interested me, and I might plan to rent or buy them sometime.

So, yes, W.A. threads are indeed "useless" -- except for their occasional moments of (however trivial and silly) 'usefulness'. ;-)

...

As I noted, I consider myself merely a "temporary" W.A. participant. Since I don't have a longer-term stake in the game, I'm not the strongest advocate.

On the other side of the coin, I can (more-or-less) understand and accept opposing points of view.

That's why I chose to play the temporary middleman and launch this discussion -- hoping that my suggestion for a new, separate, dedicated W.A. forum might possibly appeal to some, though certainly not everyone on both sides of the debate.

I acknowledge your point of view as well. Thanks for responding.

I learn about, then watch films from comments made by the checker at the grocery store...doesn't mean IMDb should also sell dairy products and fresh meats...but of course I'm just joking!

You're welcome.

bluesmanSF, I believe this book answers your original question.

... or to quote Star Trek: The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

There is already multiple message boards devoted to games. This appears to be the most appropriate one.

Games: Other Games

Staff marked this topic as "Implemented"?

My suggestion was (quoting myself) to create
"... a new forum, titled "Games: Word Association."

That feature is not implemented -- and apparently won't be implemented -- because (quoting Dan's promoted reply): "There [are] already multiple message boards devoted to games."

IMO, this topic should not be marked "implemented". Instead, this topic should be marked with whatever tag is used for ideas that have been rejected and won't be implemented.

Thanks

Dan is a Champ and only Staff can change status of a thread. They presumably felt like the use of the Games forum covered this and "Implemented" is the closest setting for "You can already do this".

Understood. Thanks!

I've edited my last reply above (and deleted my reply to Dan where I asked if he'd changed the thread status).
