I see my film credit but also listed is another older credit which indicates that this is someone else's account with the same name. How do I go about getting my own listing?

Hi James -
A name/page split is needed here.
I have gone ahead and requested this update for you, once processed your credit should be listed on a new page under "James Hines (II)".

Thanks! I have several more listings coming down the pipe. It's been a busy year :-).
How does imdb decide which account gets the posting?
Thanks,
James

IMDB usually doesn't, people adding data get given a list of possibilities and you can usually pick the best one based on location and period of work (and biography if it is present). You can use the name constant (the ID in the link - "nm" followed by a number) and that gives the exact person, but that is a bit of a power users tip and might not be how most people add data.
You can help by adding personal information to your name page (a lot of which can be done for free - a resume might also help, as you can personally keep it updated, but you'll need an IMDB Pro subscription for that - might be worth it if you don't have one) and, if you know the production company are adding credits, you can give them the link to your entry (or make sure you've got it in circulation so they'll find it if they look it up).
However, your best bet is to keep an eye on the titles and ensure the links are right, tweaking them if they aren't.
