Credits for athletes in televised games

I came upon the listing for Alge Crumpler, who was an American football player.  All but one of his credits are as a player in a game.  If IMDb is going to allow this type of credit, the site will be quickly overwhelmed, as there could be 50 or more "credits" for each NFL game (since all NFL games are televised somewhere) times 20 games per season, not counting the post-season playoff games.

Multiply that scenario by the number of televised games played in other sports around the world and even the largest server would choke on the data.

My suggestion is to limit an athlete's IMDb credits to acting or sportscasting.

After all, it's Internet Movie Database.

And, I find it a bit odd that you'd rather see credits for athletes sitting in a booth talking about what actual athletes are doing on screen, rather than see credit given for the actual work being done by the people who viewers are actually tuning in to watch.  I've more often turned off the sound because the commentators are so bad than I've ever tuned in to hear a specific commentator talk.

Why, by the way, should this specifically affect athletes?  Wouldn't the same be true with musicians performing on TV?  Or talk show guests doing stupid pet tricks and such??

I am sure they'll figure something out if the server ever starts choking.  Like dump the message boards, etc. Most of what's on the message boards has nothing to do with film.

Dav3id: The IMDb did intentionally decide to allow credits for athletes who appear on screen in televised sporting events, and they have allowed such credits for several years now. The IMDb servers can handle a lot of data, so I doubt that any dire consequences will arise from this decision. They can always buy more servers if they need to.

If it makes you feel any better, IMDb's contributors don't seem to be obsessive about submitting credits for athletes with regard to every game they appear in that is broadcast on television. Many athletes could potentially have a lot more IMDb credits for appearing in games than they actually have listed now.

LOL...until obsessive fans start piling on and you end up having your point made, sadly as the site crashes!

Thanks Dav3id!
