Honestly, I am not sure if this should exist anyway because it is the famous German 1981 movie packed into 3 episodes for television. But the way it exists there, is definitely incorrect.

https://www.fernsehserien.de/das-boot/episodenguide

The 3 episodes were aired originally in February/March 1985. Later, in 1987, it was packed into 6 episodes of half the runtime.

What is the right approach here?

Combine episodes 1 and 2 into episode 1. Combine episodes 3 and 4 into episode 2. Combine episodes 5 and 6 into episode 3?

Or just delete episodes 4-6?

I will correct the dates as soon as there are only 3 episodes listed.

Hi Steb -

If I understand correctly, the series you referenced here is not a separate TV Series version of the film, but rather it's the 1981 film split into episodes?  Is that correct?

Partially I believe. The movie had a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The 3 episodes of the mini series had a runtime of approximately 100 minutes each, so the entire thing is about twice as long as the theatrical release. They included many more scenes.

Hi Steb -

Thanks for your note.  I will file a ticket for our title editors to take a look and confirm the appropriate action (confirming whether the series should be removed and listed as a version of the film on the existing film page, or if the mini-series is valid to remain listed on it's own).  I will let you know the status once I hear back from them.

Hi Jeorj -

Unfortunately, the ticket is still open pending further investigation.  I have requested a status update on the ticket, so hopefully it will be reviewed by our editorial staff, once I have any updates I will post the information here.

Thanks you for bringing this to our attention. Apologies for the delay in resolving this matter. You are correct in that we should list the title as originally aired.

Our policy is that we list a title as it was originally released/made available to the public. In general subsequent versions, re-edited, remastered, re-released etc should be listed in the Alternate Versions section of the original title. That is, unless the new version contains sufficiently new/previously unseen footage or a different narrative (this is generally judged on a case by case basis).

In the case of Das Boot, since the three part series contains approx 150 mins more footage than was seen the the original movie release, it warrants it's own title page. The series was then seemingly cut into 6 episodes, however this version did not contain new footage and therefore should be listed as an Alternative Version of the 3 part series.

As you suggested above, I have merged episode 2 into 1, 4 into 3 and 6 into 5, then renumbered them as 1, 2 and 3. I then combined the running times to give the correct total for each. I have also removed the release dates that referred to the later 6 episodes release.

The six episodes were previously listed on the site with the episode titles
1) Operation Atlantik
2) Auf Suchkurs
3) Der erste Angriff
4) Himmelfahrtskommando
5) Auf Grund
6) In der Heimat
I have removed these for now, could you please update them as necessary.

If you are aware of any other data that needs to be amended we would appreciate your help in doing so. If you cannot make these amendments yourself please let us know and we will try to help you.

Hey there,
I just tripped over this thread, because i also disagree with the type of listing of "Das Boot (1985) TV-Miniseries".
It says "Operation Atlantik" was first aired in 1985, but that's just wrong.
The 3-part-miniseries and that was also the first series was aired in 1984 on uk and in 1985 on german television and didn't have titles. The episodes were named part 1, part 2 and part 3 and each episode had a runtime around 100-105 minutes.

In 1987 on german televison it was the first time the series was shown as the 6-part tv-series numbered and named like this:
Episode 1 (Operation Atlantik)               27th April 1987
Episode 2 (Auf Suchkurs)                      04th  May 1987
Episode 3 (Der erste Angriff)                 11th  May 1987
Episode 4 (Himmelfahrtskommando)    18th  May 1987
Episode 5 (Auf Grund)                           25th May 1987
Episode 6 (In der Heimat)                      01th June 1987

So again, the season with the 6 episodes is just incorrect listed as u can see here https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081834/episodes?season=1&ref_=tt_eps_sn_1

The date should be changed to 1987 for the first Ep also the plot for each episode is wrong because it has been written for the 3-part mini series.

Hi Michael -

I can see that the UK Release Date listed is for January 5, 1986, if this is incorrect and the series was first released in the UK in 1984, please submit the applicable Release Date correction through our online Update form.  If the episode titles were also named as "Part 1", "Part 2", etc., you will also need to submit the applicable episode title corrections and our editors will take a look.

Hi Micheal, thanks for pointing this out. Taking a closer look it appears that another user has updated the series by adding three new episodes and then re-titling every episode of the series. It seems when I previously made the changes I did note mark the title sufficiently to stop these changes (my mistake).
I have reverted the series to reflect the 3 part version and tried to ensure that the appropriate security measures are in place to stop this happening again.

If you know the correct release dates we would really appreciate if you could update this through the site.
