It would be interesting to know the criteria determining those contributors who are defined as "active", for the purposes of downloading the basic and extended datasets.
The latest information I could find from an IMDb admin is 12 months old and states the following:
"The Extended Datasets are available to those who have 1000+ approved contributions in the last 360 days, otherwise the Basic Datasets are available with just one approved contribution in the last 60 days."
Does this still hold true? And if so, is there a time delay between submitting contributions and being granted access?
Thanks!

If you cannot devote about ten hours contributing data over a year then I doubt if you will be willing to spend the time it takes to get any value from the additional data.

For example, when you add credits to a soap opera:

Great to see you all doing this. It encourages me to contribute even more!

1) I added (for now) 40 episodes on 194.
2) After, I added the credits to the series.
3) It took only 1 hour or so to get approved since the series is not popular.
The best with soap operas in my country is that actors are almost in every episode.
Even at this rythm, I will be far away from: https://www.imdb.com/user/ur1421253/
, he had (4 000 000+) contributions last year.

4M a year.
11K contributions a day.
