I've mistakenly submitted 3 festival screenings of my film as a "release date" and requested them to be deleted. Request #190319-231320-043000
on March 19th, 2019. One was resolved, however, two are still pending even though the resolution date given to me was 3/20/2019. It is vital for us to get it resolved as an important festival acceptance depends on it. The movie wasn't released until December 2018 and only played at festivals. I'd so appreciate your kind assistance. Thank you. Julia

Hi, Julia Butler.
The "3 festival screenings" and "only played at festivals" mean, in view of IMDb rules, that movie had 3 limited releases and may be open now for rating.

As noted above in MAthePA's reply, festival release dates count as releases on IMDb so those dates will not be removed, sorry.

Please note that the year in the title is derived from the date of earliest release. This includes any festival release dates.

Hi Col, thank you so much for your response. I was told by several filmmakers and distributors that screenings at festivals were not considered to be a commercial release. My movie was not released really until late 2018. How should i deal with it as it's hurting my distribution tremendously?

Hi Julia,
Thanks for your response.
As mentioned by Col, we do consider festival releases to be valid at IMDb and therefore this can't be changed per your request.
Thanks for understanding our position.

In other words, if I may:
For "several filmmakers and distributors, screenings at festivals are not considered to be a commercial release". They are certainly right.
But IMDb does not go by "commercial release" date, only the first public showing is taken into consideration.

You have an award winning film (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4624204/awards) which has been well received by the audience (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4624204/ratings) and critics alike (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4624204/externalreviews).
If any distributor questions IMDb's festival release dates policy, you can always refer them to this thread. For a good example of festivals building momentum, please see https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125435/releaseinfo and https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125435/awards

Can you give a link to the film so someone can have a look and advise further.

Thank you!

Please accept my sympathy to your achievements in production, and also my condolence on the interrupting circumstances. In view of the latter, the distributors are unfair when considering Slipaway (2017) to be "old". It's a cold comfort, but I hope this makes sense for you as a former impresario. I wish you to live everything.
I think it would be not ethical to call the people who visit the limited releases (all festivals used to be the limited ones) as not "public". Since a movie has been watched by public, no matter how great is the amount of people, then a movie database should distinguish the movie as a released one and let the public to share experience, e.g. in ratings. Slipaway (2017) has a very good rating, in my opinion.
