Devilman Crybaby is a miniseries.

On Netflix their original anime Devilman Crybaby is listed as a Limited Series but on IMDb it is listed as a TV Series. I have tried to change this multiple times by adding the keyword but have had no success. The same is true for Twin Peaks: The Return which was advertised by its network Showtime as a Limited Event Series.

Right now, "limited series" is not an item in the set of series types recognized in the IMDb system. The only options are "miniseries" and null default (meaning just plain "series"). The guidelines regarding the distinctions are outline at https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/discover-watch/how-do-you-decide-if-a-title-is-a-film-a-tv-movie-or-a-miniseries/GKUQEMEFSM54T2KT#. I guess, what we would want to ask of the IMDb site authorities is to setup the system to recognize a special keyword that affects the title page display.

I guess the definition for ”mini-series” can be diffucult at times. At least not as black and white as some people think. From Wiki:

”A miniseries (or mini-series, also known as a serial in the UK) is a television program that tells a story in a predetermined, limited number of episodes.”

There are many tv-series that run, let’s say, 4-7 episodes. So the numbers of episodes alone can’t be the determining factor.

Yeah but in the case of Devilman Crybaby it says on Netflix that it's a limited series. My only concern is that I've tried to change it several times to no avail so was wondering if raising attention to it would help.

Not fully sure what is the official word from IMDb, but perhaps ”Limited series” is considered the same as the TV series. Or at least different from the ”mini-series”.

From Wiki:
Limited series: ”A television show with a predetermined number of episodes telling a complete story arc, usually longer than a miniseries”

HI, Adam One. You should maybe inquire to the Netflix company about whether or not "Limited Series" and "Limited Event Series" refer to the concept of a miniseries, and then report back here to keep the IMDb Community informed. What the Netflix company has in mind may not be quite the same as with the IMDb company or other businesses (or charities like Wikimedia Foundation) have in mind. Netflix's limited series may be longer than the average miniseries, in other words.

I think it's evident that because TV shows which have been blatantly marketed as and are considered miniseries' such as Alias Grace, Godless, The Defenders and the upcoming Maniac are in fact listed on Netflix as 'Limited Series' that the company considers them one and the same. As there is no Limited Series classification on IMDb I would also assume that IMDb considers them one and the same which, in my opinion, they should be given that they both embody the same structure, that is a series with a predetermined and limited number of episodes. Personally I would prefer IMDb refrains from introducing a new classification as that will undoubtedly complicate things for future and existing titles. I guess Twin Peaks is its own mystery with the whole 'Event Series' thing, but Devilman Crybaby is certainly listed as a miniseries and therefore I believe should also be on IMDb. I'm mostly wondering how to ensure my attempted edits are noticed/considered.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your post.

The episode count mentioned within the categorization listing on the help site here should be considered more of a guideline, please see a similar example of this "limited" type series in Band of Brothers.

This series ran in 10 parts (greater than the 2-4 within the article) but is still considered a 'Mini-series' by our standards.

I can see you've currently contributed the 'tv-mini-series' keyword to Devilman Crybaby and it's pending review from an editor, please allow some time for them to look into this further for you.

Thanks,

Joel

Thanks very much Joe, would resubmitting the keyword help? I submitted on Friday and was wondering if it will get lost in the shuffle.

In fact, is there anywhere I can submit the proof (its listing as a miniseries on its creator Netflix) in order to ensure the keyword is approved?

So I submitted the keyword on Friday and it says on the Processing Times Page that all keywords since then have been reviewed which I assume means it's been rejected. This is frustrating because it literally says it's a miniseries on Netflix. Any place I could submit the proof? Any thoughts?

The original was 180831-072524-690000 but I actually ended up submitting it a few more times when I saw it wasn't taking so below are the other references for the same request:

Joel or some other IMDb Employee can evaluate the submissions and, if they are viable, cause the corresponding edits, in whole or in part, to go live.

Hi Adam One -

The "tv-mini-series" Keyword has now been approved for this series and the change should be live on the site shortly.  Cheers!
