I am wondering if certain members hold some exceptional privilege over others in regards to reporting posts and getting them deleted. Or writing libelous and reprehensible content that will never get deleted - even after numerous times they will have been reported.

A particular member of a certain board has not only been stalking me, but writes libelous and totally incorrect posts time and time again solely to defame me. They have decided to troll me and they get away with it. They accusme me of using the N and C words, making racist and misogynistic remarks in the past, that in no way have any basis in reality.

I would not care about it, but my posts keep getting reported and deleted, yet these reprehensible posts never get deleted even after I pleaded to the moderators. My posts, even if they do not feature any swearing or hateful or derogatory remarks, do get deleted constantly even within minutes after posting sometimes.

Do moderators single out some posters and delete their posts regularly w/o even reading them the moment they are reported because they are on some automatic black list now? Or are these posts from certain members being deleted because a gang of other members collectively decide to report on them after pitifully organizing themselves via Private Messages and overload the system with reporting?

I kindly ask for your assistance: why do moderators seem to have it out for me yet nothing happens to some other poster who maliciously slanders my name and even posts replies with multiple curse words in them? These replies do always survive.

Thank you for your time and reply. Regards.

Moderator's don't have it out for you. That's silly. With millions of users and many millions of boards, they likely have never heard of you.

Accounts all start out in good standing (unless a User in poor standing creates a new account using the same authentication ID) and report history is tracked by the system. No one gets extra privilege but reporting irresponsibly can result in loss of privileges. It's best to report an abusive User and put them on ignore or you risk losing the ability to have reports of abuse accepted from your account. If you lose the privilege, you'll receive no notice and the action is permanent.

Tank you for your timely reply.

I do not condone reporting anyone's posts to be deleted, since I am firmly against censorship of any kind. However, when certain deranged individuals, complete with their ghost sock accounts, manage to get most of your posts deleted again and again -posts that do not feature any cuss words, racist or derogatory remarks btw-, you find yourself playing the same game.

It is highly suspect that some of my posts should get deleted just 5 minutes after posting, yet certain posts of other people that are field with ostensible hatred, malice and cuss words should be sustained and ignored. If I could mage to get a hundred sock accounts, I certainly would - just to pad my own standing on these silly imdb boards - like many people somehow manage to do. I guess not every one of us is that crafty.

I was asked to confirm my account with a phone # - can I use the same number to confirm and validate multiple accounts? I would be inclined doing that, so that I can be equally insufferable and imdb would maybe delete certain posts I report as well.

PS: Putting people on ignore doesn't solve the problem. They continue to defame and degrade you on the same boards because imdb refuses to take action. A troll is a troll is a troll is a troll. That may not mean that much to you, since I guess you have never been on the receiving end of such relentless and reprehensible harassment and cyber-stalking.

Could even a single misbehaving user create multiple accounts and use them to submit multiple reports?

Can IMDb disable reporting privileges on every new account, until the account has been actively used while remaining in good standing for a period of time?

People can have multiple accounts - all you need is new email addresses. In fact, you can have countless accounts. However, one also needs to be able to confirm these accounts via a legit phone # or some attached amazon account if I'm not mistaken.

I am now wondering if multiple accounts can be confirmed by using the same phone #.

As for your second suggestion, great idea actually. These sock accounts are generated by some losers only to report on posts that belong to other people whom they've decided to antagonize/troll. And since they have so many ghost yet legit accounts, they can use any one of them to report on posts - never overload any one account with too many reporting incidents.

That is how their standing on imdb remains pristine. imdb very dutifully and swiftly removes the posts that these virginal accounts happen to report.

Yes, it is possible to authorize multiple accounts using the same phone number.

However, if one of those accounts acts up and is sanctioned, the sanction is applied to all the accounts authorized by that number.

Amazon accounts have not been used for verification for several years. Currently only cell and credit card numbers are the only options and they cannot be reused if the authentication was removed due to abuse (which would, as David mentions above, affect all User Accounts which verified by that number).

One of those kinds of trolls once told me that he owned his own company and had over a hundred employee phones, which he could use to validate identities ad infinitum. Discouraging.

Can a sock account - fresh without any history of reporting posts before - get pretty much anything they wish deleted?

I can no longer report to get anything deleted, even if there are obscene cuss words in the posts I choose to report. They always linger. I am sure I have lost the privilege to report smthng in the eyes of imdb - perhaps reported too much.

Yet my posts that feature no cuss words or derogatory remarks keep getting deleted by one individual who have multiple sock accounts. Do these nubile fresh accounts have the advantage to get ANYTHING they want deleted w/o imdb even paying attention to the posts' content because of their pristine reporting history? Because that's what has been happening to me and imdb dutifully deletes everything I type.

I really want to know about all this, since I too want to be able to abuse and manipulate the system to stand against people who have been harassing, stalking and cyber-bullying me.

I would recommend that you stick to the core features of the site and please stay off the message boards. There are probably thousands of message boards more carefully moderated that would be better suited to your chatting needs.

This comment from the site's help section regarding message board FAQ's seems directed to you:

I want to complain about the way the message boards are moderated!
We are sorry to hear that. However, if you disagree with the policies outlined in our Terms & Conditions of Use document or are otherwise dissatisfied with the contents or operation of our message boards, we suggest that you stick to the core functions of the site and stay away from the boards.
