My registered SAG/Aftra stage name is being used by someone on this site. Is a SAG/Aftra member have the right to use their stage name registered with the union over another actor?
D.J.: The fact that a person is a SAG/AFTRA member does not give them exclusivity over their professional name in IMDb. See, for example, Emma Stone (III); she is the most famous person named Emma Stone listed in IMDb, but she was not the first person by that name to be listed in IMDb, nor is she the last. There are also Emma Stone (I), (II), and (IV) listed in IMDb as well.
The roman numerals after the person's name, when there are more than one person by the same name, are nowadays assigned by IMDb in the order that the people were added to the database.
I am having trouble with an IMDb for myself. The account depicts a Rob Wegner as "self" on a talk show in the Netherlands. The problem with this is that I've been in the union since the early-90's and union policy is that names can't be duplicated. See: http://www.sagaftra.org/content/getting-started-actor-faq
How is it possible that someone in the Netherlands gets name priority over an American in the union that has credits dating before the Netherlands entry? All my entries were deleted.
In other words, my credentials -- if someone looks me up on IMDb -- is limited to someone, that is probably not an actor, in the Netherlands. This is unfair.
Thanks in advance!
Rob
PS: When you invest in yourself to the point of paying union entry fees and dues and actually doing the work, this situation may give me legal rights.
