Does posting a film trailer online violate terms of film festival submissions for the film itself?

I have submitted my most recent film to quite a few film festivals that are still pending. However, I'm receiving inquiries regarding being able to have the trailer online for viewing. I don't want to do ANYTHING to violate terms of film festivals that say "films may not have been made public or anywhere online or had distribution, etc..." Does that include the trailers as well or is that only indicative of the film itself?

Please advise!

Thank you in advance.

Warm Regards,
Lamont

My 2 cents and first reaction: it is up to each festival terms to state whether trailers are covered by the clause you cite in your post.

I would say they are separate artefacts, and therefore trailers could be made public. But I have no experience nor authority on the matter!

Thank you for chiming in Vincent. I'm hoping the same thing...that they are handled as two separate things. But again, being sure of things is of the utmost importance. I'll continue to monitor this thread to see what other kinds of feedback, experience and input other folks have as well.

Lamont:: You would be best off contacting the festivals' managers directly. My thinking is similar to Vincent's, but since the festivals make the decisions, they are the authoritative sources to answer this question.
