DORIS DAY YOB

Dear IMDb people,

There is a problem with the YOB of Doris Day on your site. In some places, it is given as 1922. In some others, 1924 (always APR03).

I gather the correct one is 1922.

Please clean.

Can you give examples of where it is listed wrong? I see the right date next to her head shot where the birth date is listed. i dug around a little, but can't locate any of the places it's wrong. Where they are will help so I know which section to give a correction. Or, if you know where they are, you can click the yellow "edit page" button and change the date. You might paste a link to a source or two to give as evidence, though since they accepted the 1924 date once, they might not need additional evidence...but it can't hurt to include it.

Doris Day herself, her business manager, her closest friend, and the director of the Doris Day Animal Foundation ALL give the date of her birth as 1924. Doris has explained the discrepancy. When she was 16 and not old enough to sing with a band, they changed her birthdate and added two years to make her 18 and able to work. That has never been corrected.
Who should know best about what her birthdate is besides she and her business manager????

Yes, there is a big debate on this over on her Wikipedia entry. It looks like the census records have it:

7 on the 1930 one (taken a few days before her 8th birthday)

18 on the 1940 one (taken after her birthday)

I am unsure about the adding two years story:

Wouldn't that make the dates the other way around? If she was 16 at the time and she claimed to be 2 years older, then wouldn't she be saying she was born in 1920?

It sounds more like the kind of story an older actress might come up with to chop a couple of years off her age - so she was born in 1922, but later claimed she was 2 years younger than that, so she was claiming her birth was actually in 1924.

I believe someone has checked the dates and the first was done before her birthday and the second after - giving us a solid 1922 dob.

As she is now celebrating her 92nd birthday - very publically! Then the YOB is now wrong and it should have been left as the 1924 :)
