Why are you getting rid of the epdate, epvote and eprate pages attached to TV series?

Thanks for the feedback above.  The changes to the episode views are part of our technology update described on https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/upcoming-changes-to-several-imdb-features-du6man1opd5q0

The episode lists now include the rating, number of votes and the option to rate on either a season-by-season or year-by-year basis, for example: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4574334/episodes

Hello,

Thank you for your continued feedback. We are pleased to announce that we have just made a change to the Advanced Title Search results page to return much of the functionality lost when the epdate, eprate, and epvote pages went away.

This episode results page is now linked to from the 'See more episodes >>' link in the Top-Rated Episodes panel on the right hand side of the TV Series page. Below is an example for The Simpsons.

Best regards,
Chris.

Thank you, That works. Though I honestly don't see what was wrong with what we had before or why you changed it. Don't fix what ain't broke. There is plenty of work for you in fixing what IS broken without wasting time returning features you took away. That is very unproductive.

I know the older option of this feature was more simple, but to be honest I liked it more. At the moment, I can't see the number of season/episode and the number of votes. For example, if I only want to look at a particular season and see the ratings/number of votes there, that's impossible - it never says which season/episode it is (i.e. s05e05), so you have to count which is a real pain. Also, if you sort the episodes by number of votes, you can't actually see the number of votes. And finally, the pictures could sometimes contain spoilers which is bad if you haven't actually seen it. I hope this isn't the final version of this feature and you can keep working on it to make it better!

Well, I can't even find this link. Where is it, please? When I go to Simpsons, like in the example, it doesn't show that way to me. I don't find a link to Top Rated Episodes. It was so good before...

@Paulo Santoro
It's on the standard view of the series' title page.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096697/
If you use Reference View, you won't see it.

Here's the link itself, which you could edit for any series by changing the title id (tt0096697 for The Simpsons):
http://www.imdb.com/search/title/?series=tt0096697&view=simple&count=250&sort=user_ratin...

I tried finding a way to initiate a series= search within Advanced Title Search; didn't see it.
I _was_ able to tack on "&series=tt0096697" to a custom search. For instance, I entered 2016-09 and 2017-08 in the release dates boxes, and then tacked on the series parameter to get this:
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?release_date=2016-09-01,2017-08-31&sort=user_rating,asc&ser...
It would be nicer to have a "season=" parameter, especially if you could feed it a range of season numbers.

The best replacement for the older better function is the "How many episodes have you seen" function.  It's on the right hand side of the front page of any series.  It's below the "See more episode" function.

When are you putting the much better older function back like we were told would happen earlier on this thread?

There is no MORE about it. It is most definitely LESS. Nothing wrong with the old system. No need to have changed it.

The results can now be viewed in two modes; they can be sorted by nine criteria; and the pages update many times each day rather than being frozen in time for 24-36 hours at a time (which is especially important for active shows). This also provides the future option of folding by-series searches into the complete advanced title search  at http://www.imdb.com/title/search for even more precise episode search options.

Given the software driving the old pages expired in December 2017, there was a pressing need to change it, sorry, please see https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/upcoming-changes-to-several-imdb-features-du6man1opd5q0 for more context.

Would be great if one could at least see which season the episodes are from.
I don't think it would be hard to add that information.

The default mode is "Compact" but if you click the link "Detailed" in the upper right of the search results, there's much more information available.  This does not yet include season.episode but we will pass along the suggestion:

For example from http://www.imdb.com/search/title/?series=tt4574334&view=simple&count=250&sort=user_ratin...
View Mode: Compact | Detailed

Hello Cole, I do not want to be that guy but I am going to be that guy. When we click the "detail" mode it only gives us a brief of the particular episode, so what I'm asking is will the episodes season also be included in the near future? Thank you.

Is this coming back any time soon? I used to use the 'highest rated titles' for tv shows quite often, but now that the list has lost the season and episode numbers it is so much less useful. It's been 4 months since your post, something simple as adding ep numbers shouldn't be too hard and take this long, right?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Thinking Out Loud - New IMDb All Episode Ratings List is Bad...And Hopefully Lots....

Let's just say I preferred the old list a lot more than the new one. It should not significantly bother anyone but still.

The repeated name of the show is so bad (and completely counterproductive) plus the name does not even change for shows like Spartacus and Atlanta (where some seasons had different names).
Seasons are replaced by year which is I don't know...
Many details likes total votes from old list are gone...Shifted to Detailed Mode which isn't exactly concise either.
Not really any new features added...I was personally hoping for (episode no./out of total episode) category...something that at least used to be seen in each episode Ratings Demographic breakdown list before....That way I did not have to calculate which would have been the 100th or 150th landmark episodes in a 240 episode list.

Or a category to remove the extra episodes from the list (like season 2 episode 0 or special the story so far type episodes), which should not be counted anyway...

I only used IMDB for eprate

I now have no reason to ever use IMDB

I expect to never visit the site again

I know there is a new system. It is worse

Sorry to see you go but I fully understand. Whilst I have not left I am on strike regarding updates until such time as the most of the removed features are returned. I urge others to do the same. Let's see how Imdb gets on without user updates.

Why not link the new page in the title menu like the old one? Then it would also appear at the top of the side menu on the Episode list page.

It could also appear under “See also” at the bottom of the Episode list page.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Season + Episode number in 'highest rated titles' overview.

This has been posted in (at least) 2 other conversations (see https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/epdate-epvote-eprate and https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/imdb-coms-tv-episodes-issue), but they are marked answered/solved, yet this is definitely not solved. (Nor do I think "we've changed it" and saying "we're planning on bringing it back" 5 months ago is a decent answer.)
I don't like opening new duplicate topics, but since I'm not getting an answer to my question (see 1st link), I don't really see any other option.

Anyway, as the title suggests and as posted in other threads, the old rating overview for a show included the season and episode number (see https://d2r1vs3d9006ap.cloudfront.net/s3_images/1740735/RackMultipart20180714-48914-1q8op0o-epdate_e...), yet the new one only shows its name and year. We've been told "the tech team is planning to add the season and episode number in the future", but that was 5 months ago. There was an announcement thread about 'updates to the ratings pages https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/updates-to-the-ratings-pages-and-functionality?topic-reply-l...), but the updates stopped 4 months ago.So since I have no idea what the current status is, and since my question in the existing thread is being ignored/hasn't been seen, I see no other option than to ask the question/raise the problem again.

In short: is the season + episode number on the 'highest rated titles' overview for shows ever comping back and if so, when?

So I created a new thread and it got merged with this one (reason: "Same issue", which is fair, I guess) by Col Needham. And even though he read and understood the issue (since he merge it), he chose to not answer the question at all. That's kind of dissapointing :(

I don't really think you're going to get an official reply at this point.

The screenshot you posted also showed the function I liked/used most on IMDB for tv shows. (https://d2r1vs3d9006ap.cloudfront.net/s3_images/1740735/RackMultipart20180714-48914-1q8op0o-epdate_e...)

In my opinion it's obvious that with the changes to the website one of the objectives was to "optimize" the number of clicks by the user.

The equivalent of the above screenshot would be this now: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?series=tt4158110&count=250&view=simple&sort=release_d...

But I would say that's still too cluttered. Especially with the "Mr. Robot (2015- )" showing in front of every single episode and the pointless little preview-pictures.

The new IMDB is more modern looking / flashier. That's about it in terms of progress compared to the old version.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled The Series and Episode information from all episodes list.

for example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5834204/
You can see the Top-Rated Episodes on top-right section, there is a tiny detail about the exact series and episode number (e.g. S1.E10). When I click on the "See more episodes »" link this important information disappears. I don't know the exact title of an exact episode but I know the number. So it's very annoying to find out what is the title of the exact episode and what series and episode is this.

Sorry, but this post is an insult to everyone here. People have been complaining about  this a lot. People have addressed that you mentioned it is coming back, but that we want an update. It has been in this underwhelming state for many months now. And then your reply is quoting your 6 months old post saying the feature is coming back "in the future".

Your reply indicates that you have no intention of giving us any extra information or letting us know the tech team has made any progress.
Just replace the (very useless*) 'show title + years running' in the code with 'season + episode number' (and maybe move it to the back)** and you're done. That should take 6 seconds, not 6+ months.

* You're on the Top-rated episodes page for that specific TV Show, why would every Episode listed need to mention that show again?
** This would change results from e.g. "2. The Handmaid's Tale (2017– ) Episode: Night (2017)" to "2. Episode: Night (2017) S01E10".

Lovely post, so correct. Imdb take away much used and sensible features replacing them with stuff that makes no sense then after receiving many complaints promise to return the removed features and then hoping we would all forget they ignore their promises.
I'm missing the important feature of being able to filter lists in edit mode. This used to be available and for some crazy reason, that only imdb know, it was removed leaving filtering available in only the view mode. I'm pretty sure this was acknowledged and promised, just like this episode thingy, to be returned. But imdb have forgotten or placed it so far down their to do list it'll be the next millennium before it appears.
