Trying to watch a clip brings up an advertisement that blasts the speakers and causes everyone to jump and turn down the volume. The advertisement is pretty offensive, but want to watch the clip so put up with it. Then the video of interest starts and no one can hear it. Turn the volume back up to hear it. Next clip same and the advertisement blasts again. Can the volume of the advertisement be turned down to not greatly exceed the volume of the clips...
Thanks, Winston

Differences in volume between video clips are not uncommon. The problem here is actually that some clips/trailers have audio set a lower level than average so you might be tempted to raise the volume in order to hear them better, and then the next clip is much louder. The real issue here is that the volume of some trailers/videos is too low, rather than the other way around.
I don't think there's much we can do here (especially when it comes to third party content, which is often streamed from an external source). I'll forward this to our video team so that they are aware of your concerns, but this is not really a technical problem or bug.

Sounds about right except each of the clips seem to be around the same volume, while the advertisements are consistently much, much louder. Usually this is not a problem as the advertisements are not offensive, but the combination of an excessively load and offensive add basting the speakers is really annoying.

When you say "offensive", do you mean they are actually porny (or otherwise morally unacceptable) or do you mean that they more generally offend you by being intrusive?
If the former then this has been reported before and is caused by malware on your computer and you should restart in safe mode and run your anti-virus software (Malware Bytes is a good free one).

This is not malware. This is a new ad compaign that IMDB has loaded onto the pages on the right hand margin of the page.

You are posting in a 7 month old thread - the ad the OP is complaining about is long gone.

Hi, im wondering if there is some way to control the advertising on the right side of the web; the last few days i found a couple of very disrupting adds that appears out of nowhere with the full volume, and creates a significant problem to the website navigation. You don't know, after every new click, where or when a new loud add is going to appear (there are two in particular that are trully awful: one gif with Shakira turning into a lion, and this other one wich is a red remote skin powered by Coca-cola with extra loud music out of nowhere). I really wish that someone on IMDB could control this kind of thigs; it's very annoying. I'm a user of IMDB for years now, and this never happened before. Thanx!

I liken being force-fed advertising to shoving food down a goose's neck to insure the fattest liver for slaughter. This is poor business practice. Poor business practice seems to be a trend now with IMDB; over-zealous advertising and over-zealous moderators.
I want to know how to block these annoying ads altogether. They are extremely intrusive. I don't mind the silent ads but to force us, the users, to listen to these ads is unconscionable. There seems to be no way to block them. Often while watching a movie I'll go to IMDB if I notice something curious and look up the film. . To have these ads popup with uncontrollable full volumn in the middle of the film is not only annoying to me but to anyone else in the room. You really need to tell us how to turn this off.

Frankly, I don't see how this cannot be IMDB's problem? "You" allow third party access to your pages you're telling me that IMDB cannot control who or how advertisers display their messages on your site?
If this is not in your control, then pray tell, how is it in our control? Further, if you have no better control of your sight, then what else is being compromised? Our personal information? Our passwords and IDs?
