The system seems to work on here, so would it be an idea to implement something like this on the IMDB forum? There are folks there who know their onions and are prepared to pitch in and help people on the Help forums, but they don't want to sign on here (we could come up with a list of them).
It would not only acknowledge their impressive efforts over the years but would help their advice standout, as there are usually a lot more comments on some threads and users would be able to get an idea about who might have the best answer to try first.

New member here... I really like this idea. I have been an IMDb member for five years and am just now ramping up my posting and input.
I think it would be a positive improvement if the champion concept was re-implemented there, if for no other reason than to give recognition. I don't really mind logging in to two places at once, but I do not think I really have anything to offer as far as a "help forum" other than asking about a billion questions.
A champion tag connected to a user would imply a certian amount of "legitimacy" (? wrong word) to a users "trustworthiness". In my opinion.

Primarily, it would suggest "knows their onions" but, yes, as the staff would have to apply the setting it could also provide a degree of legitimacy, although less so than staff/admins - it'd mean you'd perhaps need a smaller pinch of salt when taking their advice ;)

It never entered my mind to BE a champion myself. I was just supporting the idea.
I liked the idea of this feature because it would help me easily identify users who are more "knowlegable" or at the very least give more weight to their opinion/advice.

No I don't have a dog in this fight - there are a lot more knowledgeable folks on the Contributors Help forum than me. I was asked to sign up her because of the help I'd given in the Help forum, which is now defunct, so I wouldn't qualify over there as I have done here.

I do notice that this is currently on the pages of the Champs over here, but not yet rolled out for the very helpful folks who are on Contributors Help forum. I know it might be tricky picking people and you are probably working on this (as you'll know the people I was thinking of with my suggestions) but if you need any pointers just ask. I feel a little guilty having it when the giants whose shoulders we are standing on (or even whose messages from the other side we are channeling - I know I am only a medium in this kind of thing, at least compared to the L and XL folks over there ;) )

It's bound to be a subjective selection. Quite frankly, Contributors Help has done very well without badges so far, and I'm not sure there is any need for them now.

horn-5 is indeed being modest. He deserves a champion badge as much as any of the Champs on IMDb's Get Satisfaction site. Likewise, the people that horn-5 nominated are great candidates for having a champion badge. Although the selection is likely to be subjective, one could also argue that my selection as a Champ is also subjective.

You are being too modest - so modest, in fact, that I'm sure you'd qualify for a British passport (if you don't already have one - which would explain a few things ;) ).

Being a little weird, I did keep an eye on folks stars as they approached champhood (new word, right there) and I think 100 stars is only a rough rule of thumb that shows the person has answered quite a few questions, but I believe they also look out for things like the length of time people have been answering. You could turn up and throw out say 30-40 good answers and get to 100 stars which might only take a week or so if you were persistent (there being more folks around helping out tends to mean the stars accumulate quicker as I suspect we, and staff, are the ones that hand out the bulk of stars - so there is some kind of cumulative thing going on too) but that is no sign you are going to stick around and keep pitching in - if you were just badge chasing then there'd be no point in giving you the badge (OK there is a spot of gamification about that kind of thing - you could get people interested in contributing here because of the badge but they then might stick around after that anyway or you could end up with a rolling series of badge chasers popping in helping out and disappearing to be replaced by more). It is also open to abuse as someone could sign up dozens of sock puppets and hammer out 100 stars in a day or two and get all the accounts to 100 stars.

Yep, it is something I did without this in mind, but it does make life easier for staff - it was mainly in case anyone needed to PM me (perhaps with advice on how you backcomb and feathercut a beard...).

It's good to see that gromit and sienel finally got their well deserved champion badges on their profiles. Yeah DD sorted mine out for me, so I could test the polls. It should come in handy in the future when they introduce new features.
