Critics' darlings and Box-Office hits.
One was the gracious end of the franchise. Other just started a revolution.

Respectfully, I disagree Abdul Aziz. While "Logan" is by far the more maturer and somber sober film, it is also about endings and resolutions to previous situations before it started dealing with the rebirth part of the circle of life theme at the end of the film. It is dependent plot elements of the previous films in the 20th Century Fox's Marvel's X-Men film series. It constantly referred to them throughout the movie. If you haven't seen those films, you really don't get the full impact of the situation at the start of this film. Aka, it is really dependent of the previous movies. It can't stand alone on its own two feet.
In fact, I think it stole a little bit of the themes of a Mosses-like figure, rebirth, and exodus (I mean leading a group of children to the promise land) and leavening their Mosses figure behind from both Exodus and "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome". (Sorry, as I was writing this, I had just realized how much these two films have the biblical themes of Exodus in them.)
"Wonder Woman" was about beginnings and, yes, it too carried religious themes like good vs. evil, light over darkness (yes, she was light and Ares was darkness that was how they were photographed) and the whole discussion on the nature of man. It did need to rely on the previous films or deal with a film canon. Weather that changes in up coming Films remains to be answered. Also the whole tone of Wonder Woman was up beat while Logan was mainly done and gloom.

Thanks for the explanation, mate!
Even though I agree with most of the things you mentioned and even if my vote goes to Wonder Woman, I enjoyed Logan as well. I agree that it can't be enjoyed as a standalone movie, but it was the only movie from that franchise which treated Wolverine more as a human than a superhero because of which it's impact was much higher than expected.

Agreed. In fact, throughout the series to, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was always prorated as more human than the others.

dgranger, I agree. But especially in this film, he was portrayed more as a human than as a hero or a savior. eg. There were scenes where he gets angry as the kids were cutting his beard. You won't find such scenes in other films from this franchise. I mean this is not generally seen in a 'superhero'-movie.

Totally agreed . Btwi just noticed a typo in my post. It was meant to say "Portrayed", not "prorated."

Revised question-
Logan and Wonder Woman: Both are Critics' darlings and Box-Office hits.
One was the gracious end of a franchise. Other most likely started one of its own.
Which of these films does a better justice to the franchise, in your opinion?

I haven't seen either of these new films. I don't go to the movie theaters much anymore because I don't have my own car to drive there. However, I'm a big 'Wolverine/Logan' fan, and I'm sure that this new "Logan" film is just as outstanding as all the other "X-Men" & "Wolverine" films. As for this new "Wonder Woman" movie? Well, I'm sorry to say that I prefer the 1977 T.V. version with Lynda Carter, and so I'm afraid that the new one played by Gal Gadot doesn't do it for me.

I want to vote, but I still have to see Logan. I enjoyed Wonder Woman thoroughly, but I have a strong hunch my vote will go to Logan. We'll see. I'll let you know in a week or four.
