We have removed the Facebook “Like” buttons from name and title pages.

To gauge the popularity of movies, TV shows and celebrities listed on our site, users rely on IMDb's STARmeter and MOVIEmeter charts and rankings, determined by proprietary algorithms which reflect what people are looking at on IMDb.

Users can continue to share IMDb content on Facebook and other social media via the 'share' buttons located on every name and title page.

Perhaps I'm the black sheep for speaking my mind but trust me (if the two comments above mine aren't telling enough), I'm not the only one who's thinking this nor the only one considering disbanding from IMDb subscription. Try to actually ask your users what they want before presuming that people would find it a good idea and fair you're deleting a feature that they spent endless hours toward building up. Anybody in his right mind would realize how absurd an idea that is. Also, I understand you're just an IMDb employee but you have the power I'm sure to relay messages like this to your superiors. Seriously, show them. They should know how their users feel.

I have to say, too, what I have noticed is points go down by approximately 25,000 when a person is out there working jobs 2 to 3 times a week and you may have anywhere from 45 to 100 credits whereas someone with 2 credits (and movies that have no funding behind them) stay in the green (This absolutely makes no sense.   I'm working myself to death to stay in the green yet someone has 2 credits and is in the green with films that have no funding and they have their status level at basically the level I am.  I mean 90,000 points and I'm at 33,000 and they have 2 credits.  I'm bewildered right now. Something has to be done and immediately.  Is this based on politics.  I'm just trying to figure this out how someone with 2 credtis can drop to a 90,000 category.

While Hollywood and politics have almost always been inseparable, this is probably more about upholding a hierarchy than anything else. Big Hollywood studios fund IMDb through ads and my guess would be there are at least a few from those studios who sit in on the exec board meetings where all the big decisions get made. The algorithms most likely just cater to upholding a hierarchy to "please their top investors." For example, making sure William Morris clients get top ranking and that others who built up their career more independently through networking and fanbase interacting stay at lower figures. Probably those of conflicting sociopolitical views are also suppressed but that I would imagine would be more on an individual basis if they gain popularity somehow through their already ultra-biased algorithms. Again, I'm speculating but this seems like a pretty reasonable explanation rather than the phony public releases IMDb comes out with explaining why getting rid of user Facebook likes is somehow more fair. What a joke.

Yup. I went from being ranked 6000 down to 50,000. Ever since they removed the LIKE button my rank has gone down steadily.

Come on @imdb, please give the users at least a possibility to switch their Facebook likes into a watchlist or movie list or something like that!

And please respond, if there is any chance to get our likes back?
