I am appalled that IMDb is blatantly supporting a pornographic movie which portrays sexual violence and abuse as normal. It is disheartening to see companies stoop to such a low level in an attempt to make money. The Fifty Shades of Grey page on IMDb is even themed! The IMDb logo has been changed to a grey logo, and special care has been taken to advertise for this movie. IMDb, through your actions you are encouraging sexual abuse. This is something that should be fought, not exploited. Get the facts, Pornography is devastatingly harmful:

And specifically on Fifty Shades of Grey:

hi!

first i want to say, that i dont like the book, or the movie.

But, i have the chance to read your website, i im really horrified with the ideas and "facts" that you post on it.

Confuse porno movies, with sexual abuse, its and old, wrong idea.

Al the "facts" are explicitly denied by all the psychology, and sexologist institutions.

Sexual offenders are sexual offenders, regard that they watch porn or not. The impulse for being violent trough someone comes from other place. this kind of sites do exactly this, prohibit something, and repress.

the equation: love = sex, its the same, biblic equations reproduction = sex.Its been ages since philosophers of the world distinct this two concepts.

i hope people dont trust this site http://fightthenewdrug.org as been something serious, couse is not.

bye!

First of all, I want to clarify that Fight the New Drug is not my site. It is a site I support because of their effort to promote scientific facts about pornography. I was having a hard time following your response, there were many typos. I think I got your main idea though. I would disagree with you, because the affects of pornography that they address are being scientifically proven by medical experts. You can review their citations for more information. I don't know what psychological and sexologist institutions you are referencing, but there is a myriad of information supporting the opposite. Pornography rewires the brain, and causes people to have skewed relationships on healthy sexuality and healthy relationships. This comment was not intended to be a discussion on pornography in general however, it was intended to be about IMDd supporting a movie which glamorizes sexual violence against women.

Hi logostrom,

I am long time user of IMDb, not an IMDb staff member.

IMDb is a database that attempts to accurately record information on films. Even though you, others and I may find subject matter of  "The Fifty Shades of Grey" disturbing, it is still a commercially available film.

The producers of "The Fifty Shades of Grey" paid IMDb created a specially formatted page for that film. As soon as the advertising contract expires, the page will revert back to standard page format.

Other users have suggested that IMDb provide an option for users to block these kind of advertisements.

That makes sense, but a company still has the choice to decide who to advertise for, and who not to advertise for. My suggestion is that a company think twice before advertising for a movie which supports the things I've discussed earlier.
