Are the film genres listed in the order on the overall genre then subgenres to the least relevant genre as lots with multiple genres seem to be alphabitically listed - there only seem to be the odd one that is not in alphabetical order.

They are only alphabetically listed.

Does anyone have an example of "the odd one" that is not in alphabetical order?  They are ALL in alphabetical order.

Animation, Documentary and Short are listed before other genres.

Aah.

A very sensible convention.

Peter: I am wrong, and you are mostly right, although the ordering of Animation, Documentary and Short seems to vary from title to title.

Yes, it does seem to be inconsistent.

Ordering of genres by relevance is waaaay too difficult, and highly subjective, particularly for lengthier (2:15+) blockbuster films.

Hey Professor Kent, I used your favourite word :)

Thanks for your responses.
The reason for my inquiry is that I have a database created in 2002 of films I have viewed since I recalled going to the movies and more recently have a DVD in my library - currently 2389 records.

I was given a Leonard Maltins movie guide book in the late 90's and an updated version early 00's. I used to use this as the guide to the genre. Later I discovered the online DBs like IMDB and started to use that as my guide - that was okay until I have noticed that there seemed to be an increase in the genres for movies and many had more listed in the lower section and more recently they seemed to be alphabetically listed except as stated by a couple of respondents.
The IMDB has now defeated my purpose to record the main genre for the film and sub genres. I was doing an update for all the records and thought after 300 this was starting to be a waste of time.
I am wanting to search my database by the main genre (I know more and more movies cross genres) but alphabetical listing is useless in this instance for the main genre.
