I have been using IMDB and I really watch tons of videos on it, at the library and wherever I can. However I buy these movies online and get dvds at Walmart and other stores. I don't think its fair that people who post movies on imdb can have millions of people watch their work for free and get no compensation. Most people on imdb do not go and buy a film on Amazon.com unless it's something they can drop $20 or $30 on. These are usually movies like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"  "Gone with the Wind" and "The Color Purple."

I wish imdb would pay movie makers some money to keep their movies exclusively on imdb and users could pay a monthly subscription fee (like Netflix) to watch whatever we want. I could pay $8 a month (like Netflix) and then watch all the Downton Abbey episodes, and Memoirs of A Geisha. And no other websites could have the movies except imdb because people on this website love to watch movies 24/7 (at least I love being entertained).

Then people who want to shop on Amazon could buy whatever movies they wanted.  It makes me uneasy that tons of movies on this cool website are making no money for the producers because people won't buy the movie on Amazon.com. I think the "no compensation policy" might discourage movie makers from coming to imdb. And other companies like Netflix, VUDU and HULU will make out like bandits because they will pay moviemakers to use their video content.

****IMDB please allow movie makers to get some monthly or annual compensation because I think you might end up losing business. Too many independent movies are on Netflix and other online streaming networks. The last time I was on netflix their were almost 500 new independent movies in one month and they were all made by small studios and not companies like MGM or Paramount****

Why can't movie makers get a flat fee for letting tons of people watch their videos? I heard that Netflix pays moviemakers a few pennies off each stream a movie makes. I think paying 5 cents per view is better than no compensation. Just think about it 0.05 X 100 people watch your movie is $5.00. You won't be rich but at least you won't be broke, busted and disgusted!

IMDb is a database of information about Movies and the people who make them. With minor exceptions, it does not stream videos. Any exception has been added to the site by the video owner.

It is a subsidiary of Amazon, which sells (among other things) videos on VHS and DVD, plus downloadable versions for viewing on Kindle. All of these are paid. I doubt IMDb will want to get into the hassle of micro-payments, nor do I believe Amazon would want them to start a service that could cut into their sales.

Not too mention, millions of people (actors/filmmakers, etc.) are getting free advertising via IMDb for their works, which appears before hundreds of millions of users monthly, 24/7, 365...talk about value for $0...you can't get that anywhere else, I'd guess.
