Susan: This is a fairly common situation and should not be too hard to fix. However, I need to confirm some information first, to ensure that the correction is done right.

I see your two pages, Susan Smitten at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1012211/ and Sue Smitten at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1640666/.

1. Do all the credits on both pages belong to you?
2. Which of the names, "Susan Smitten" or "Sue Smitten", is your preferred name?
3. Were your credits for each film or TV show listed on screen by the name associated with that page? In other words, for example, if a credit is currently listed on the "Sue Smitten" page, were you credited on screen as Sue Smitten in that film/TV show?

Hi - thanks for the reply!  Yes - all those credits are mine, and there are quite a few more that I need to add.  I prefer Susan as first name.  I really appreciate your help!!!

I just saw your third question... to tell you the truth, I can't recall.  I may have been credited as Sue, though I usually tried to correct that if I saw it.

In what way do you think you may have "corrected" the listings? What should happen is, if the credit appeared as "Sue" and therefore missed your page headed by "Susan," and a new page got created, The pages should have been merged into one and the 'attribute' of "(as Sue Smitten)" should have been added.

So, if they got added correctly (how the name appeared on screen) but not the way your preferred professional name is configured, entries should carry that attribute. If they appeared as "Sue," the pages should, at this time, be merged into one but we'd need to know which were credited in which way. I would assume that they were added as they appeared but if you "fixed" some of them without adding attribute, "(as...)," that may no longer be true.

Do you have a way to check the credits and see how your name appeared (at least in those where the pages imply that the name appeared as "Sue," ie, all those on the Sue page)?

It looks like I was credited as Sue Smitten, so can we merge those onto my Susan Smitten page?    And then, next step I guess... how do I add credits?

thanks again - you're being really helpful!

The War Bride is available via IMDb and you're credited on screen as "Sue."

My presumption would be that those titles in which you were credited as Sue got listed as such and others, listed on screen as "Susan," got put on that page.

But then I see that for "Making Waves," you're shown on IMDb both ways...oddly. Coud this be one you "fixed" but that you just fixed part of it?

I'd say, proceed as if you've been getting credited both ways (especially since your recollection is that this was true and that you'd applied some type of fix) and proceed to "merge" the pages and indicate the names by which they appear in IMDb. Then proceed to locate credits where you can and see how the factual data exists and how it should have been submitted in the first place and submit to correct anything needed based on what you find.

So, you'll start at the page for Sue Smitten and click the "edit page" button.

This first option on the page is for "Name Correction or Merge." Change "no change" to "add correction," scroll down and click the "continue" button.

At the name field, type in your name as it appears on the correct page, or "Smitten, Susan." Leave the box checked for "preserve credits..." as they appear on the other page and fill in the explanation field. Say something like, "I am Susan and have been credited both ways, causing a second page to be created. My professional name is "Susan" and this is how my credits will appear most often. Please merge the pages and preserve the credits as shown."  Click the "check these updates" button.

You'll receive a warning that this will cause a "merge" of the pages. Since this is what you are seeking, check the box to acknowledge the warning and click the "re-check these updates" button.

The background should turn green and allow you to now "submit" the request. Click the submit button and then give a couple days to a week to process. If there are any problems, like if the "Making Waves" credit is not corrected completely, submit requests to correct (or post back here for advice on how to submit it).

Unless you can find on screen credits showing differently, I'd say, again, that it's likely those listed on the Sue page were credited that way and those on the Susan page were credit that way (if you didn't, at some point, move them around without carrying over the notation indicating how they appeared.

As to adding new credits....always make sure you add them as they appear on screen. It causes fewer problems that other folks will need to fix. So, once your merge happens, if you are credited again as "Sue," the credit can/should be added to your page in the name "Susan," but you need to add the attribute of, "(as Sue Smitten)." So it's important not to just decide how you want your name to appear, but then to let your employers know so that you're credited correctly on screen. IMDb does not go by your preference but solely by how the credit appeared on screen (see, for example, Christopher Walken's credit for "Annie Hall").

Okay, thanks.  I've printed the instructions so I can follow as I go.  I think the dual credit on Making Waves was because I was writer and director... I don't think I did that.  It was odd though, I'd agree. :)

I'll get the merge done, then deal with adding.  Noted that I need to add as I was credited.

Thanks again...

Okay - done and submitted.  :)  Just a final note that in getting to this I had to set up a log in -- and hopefully that doesn't create yet another profile.  :)

A User Account is needed to use many of the features of the site. One of which is adding/correcting data. Registering for a User Account, into which you'd log in and use features of the site, has nothing to do with there being a page of the site listing credits under a different name.

As long as you don't mean that you created a User Account, then joined IMDbPro, then used it to choose to create a new name page, as if you were not already listed, it should not be of any concern.

There are two ways to create a Name Page, part of the database that lists the credits under a certain name. One is to add a person's name to the cast/crew of a show/film page (if she/he doesn't already have a page representing his/her work, one gets created), or to do as I said above, create a User Account, subscribe to IMDbPro then tell the system that you don't already have a page and choose to create a new one.

Neither should be applicable in this case.

If, however, you do create a new page when one is not needed, the instructions to then "merge" the pages into one are the same as I posted above (and can be found by going to IMDb.com and clicking the "help" link, which then displays the FAQ page for You have two separate pages for the same person, how can this be fixed?),

Hi!  I just checked and it appears to all have been merged - so thanks you!!  I tried to add two credits but it's not working.  Probably because they are older and apparently not in your system.

I was the director of the documentary FASD: FInding Hope http://findinghope.knowledge.ca/home.html which was released by Force Four Entertainment in February 2009.  (listed as Sue Smitten)

And I was writer and director of the documentary Wild Horses, Unconquered People - http://www.telefilm.ca/en/catalogues/production/wild-horses-unconquered-people
which was done for CBC's Rough Cuts in 2004, produced by Omni Film Productions.

While I'm at it, I wanted to add director credits for two series by GRB Entertainment: Inferno (1998)
When Fun Turns to Fear (2000)

But the two docs are my priority...  is there a way to get them listed??

thanks so much - have a great weekend!

IMDb is title based. This means that you can create a Name page by entering a new name in a credit you are adding to a Title, but you cannot create a Title by adding a credit to a Name page. The only way to add a Title (other than for a film being submitted to Festivals by Withoutabox) is to fill out the New Title form.

I recommend you start by reading the Submission Guide: Adding a New Title. The final paragraph contains a link to the Submission Form.

You will need a fair amount of data, but the form is fairly straightforward, if long. Just read any warnings carefully; they usually indicate the next step.

Note that Miscellaneous Links are very important, You should try to get 3rd party sites that indicate that the Title was made available to the public, as this is a primary criterion for acceptance.

If you have problems, just ask here for more help. The more specific your request, the more likely you will receive helpful replies.

Note that for TV Series, cast and crew credits need to be added to the individual Episodes, not to the Series. If the Episode does not yet exist on the site, you should enter it by clicking on the Add Episode button on the main Series page.

Good luck.
