GMJ and gromit82 should be granted administrative privileges in the "Data Issues & Policy Discussions" category of this forum.

Sometimes people unfamiliar with the way this forum works reply to old topics instead of creating new topics, when they should definitely do the latter. These kind of replies frequently go unacknowledged, despite needing to be, by the IMDb site authorities (with the exception maybe of Col Needham if he should happen to be monitoring the forum when a misplaced post is created), but GMJ (GMJames) and gromit82 (gromit82) along with a number of other IMDb Contributors notice when this happens. (There is also the matter of newcomers occasionally posting information that would best be kept confidential. Some don't mind, but some do it unintentionally, as matter of not having realized that the forum is not only public but also frequently indexed by search engines.)

I've recommended GMJ and gromit82 because of their long-time statuses as Champions and Top Contributors, and for being competent, very polite and very neutral. (Just to note, I'm not sure whether or not gromit82 already has privileges.) If, however, they do not want this or should it require too much training or work hours, then never mind(or change the topic from "problem" to "idea"), as another way could be thought up at a later time. The bottom line is that something should be done to better organize this forum and mitigate the mishaps happening through it, especially considering how the increasing amount of traffic occurring. (It is almost guaranteed to never decrease unless something truly amazing happens with the IMDb website or IMDb App.)

I agree. I believe they can already do it. Maybe they choose not to. Nikolay Yeriomin changed a category from all questions to a problem the other day when I brought that to his attention. So they may have this capability.

I'm basing it off something that GMJ told somebody who created a misplaced post.

Hi Jeorj,

We do our best to keep an eye on older topics and split them off to new threads where applicable, but sometimes these do get missed. If you see any that we've missed please feel free to respond to the thread advising the user to start a new topic to receive a response from staff.

Thanks,
Will

Hi, Will. In the past when I've done that, my reply would be removed as "wrong thread". I believe you know exactly who was doing that. I do not like having my replies removed (even if the removal is intended to be harmless and purely technical), so I adjusted my behavior to simply not bother replying.

I know who too. And the e-mail replies are not kind. I do not like having my replies removed also, so I adjusted my behavior to simply not bother replying too.

To Jeorj Euler,

Thank you. I'm very flattered by your post. Because of other responsibilities, I'm not interested in any administrative privileges at this time.

I would recommend Will's suggestion on this matter.

Thanks again.
