Where are you having it sent to?

My phone. I am supposed to receive the pin in a text message but nothing ever comes.

This is happening to me as well. Can someone please help, I've been trying to get this to work for the past several WEEKS.

I contacted the help desk and they essentially told me to bugger off. I'm from the US, I put my phone number in MULTIPLE times in different formats and it doesn't WORK. I also tried using another phone and it didn't work either.

This NEEDS to be fixed, what is the damn issue here?

Okay... That doesn't help. HALF of the site should not be blocked unless you give a phone number or credit car number.

I absolutely REFUSE to give them my credit card number and I don't understand why one out of two options has given a ton of people issues.

This is completely unacceptable and whoever designed this authentication system or thought of the idea should be fired.

I just want to go on the damn boards and participate in the discussions I'm otherwise reading. Is that too much to ask? I don't care how many "trolls" there were to cause IMDB to have this damn authentication - it's obviously causing a shit ton of issues.

Either make BOTH options work or add in email authentication, DAMMIT! I don't go on a site to only use part of what it offers.

It's to reduce abuse. So, it's completely acceptable.

Shouting and cursing doesn't help you when that's what they're trying to discourage.

Again, from their end, both options work.

I'd recommend sticking to the core features and purposes of the site since this clearly disturbs you greatly, the searchable database and content of film/tv information. Replying to a message board post is the lowest priority feature of the site.

Good luck!

"Lowest Priority Feature". Yeah, I don't care it's still a FEATURE on the site that should be accessible.

I don't care if it requires extra authentication as long as that authentication actually WORKS. Especially since they only offer two options to authenticate your account it should DEFINITELY work.

It does work for many people. If the problem is on your end with a phone that does not accept text from websites there may not be anything IMBD can do to fix the problem. Authenticate with a credit card if your phone is having trouble.

I use prepaid credit cards online, there's zero fear that they can be stolen or abused because there is no money on them unless I put it there to be spent.

Email authentication has proven to not be good enough to stop the problems they were having, its far too easy to get free disposable email names in seconds so it means absolutely nothing.

I guarantee anyone trying to cause trouble will have access to 1000 times more disposable emails than they do disposable phones or credit cards.

The core features of IMDB are free and accessible without authentication. You want access to the rest, jump through the hoops and deal with it.

It is still unacceptable.  If this has been going on for YEARS, they should have found a solution by now, or don't offer authentication by text message.

Same here, I have tried to join the message boards countless times, and EVERY time, I never receive the text message with my PIN.  And, like many others, I refuse to give them my credit card number.  It's probably just as well because I'd spend too  much time here as I am a huge fan of the movies
