Does anyone know how to change what you're "known for?" I understand how the titles of the films change but on my profile it says I'm known for "actress, writer, producer" and and I would like it to say "Actress, Director, Writer" help!

Hello Stacey,
See Known For title selection at https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/di....

The default Known For titles displayed at the top of an individual's IMDb page are automatically chosen through a complex weighting system. IMDbPro members may choose these titles as they wish.

Stacey we just ran into each other on the IMDb getsatisfaction.com message boards-- no joke. Dope. Don't have the answer at all. Steve Crook ftw.

Steve: she actually meant "known for" in terms of HER known for JOBS. Actress/Writer/Producer v Actress/Director/Writer.

I see why it's a concern. Actress/Director/Writer makes more sense. Great meeting you in Buffalo Stacey Maltin.

Someone help Stacey Maltin pls.

George! OMG that's amazing. And yes, you totally understood my problem. I do know how to change the "known for films" but changing those doesn't seem to change the known for JOBS. i lost so much time trying to change this today. aaahhhhhh love that we ran into each other here. Hope an answer comes up to this!

Not to distract from someone capable of helping Stacey Maltin with this: nah, I lost more time than you today on here so congrats. I did a stunt in Sharknado 6 (Caretakers co-producer Brittany Christine is friends w/their stunt coordinator Alex) & they added to my acting roles. Pls someone help STACEY MALTIN (PS have a good night Stacey).

Hi,

As far as I know and from the answers that have already been provided on that matter, the order of displayed functions stems directly from the number of registered entries sorted by descending numbers. Episode occurrences count for individual entries.

So director will not come before writer until you have more entries as director than writer. And unless mistaken, you cannot change this even with an IMDb Pro account.

Thanks! I actually do have more credits as Director than I do as a writer. 9 vs. 7. This is why I was hoping the weighting would change but it so far has not so was curious to see if there was something else to be done.

Hi Stacey,

there are three Stacey Maltin in IMDb (but maybe (II) and (III) are avatars of you, with only one director entry each).
As of this time, Stacey Maltin (I) appears as Producer | Actress | Writer
The fact that you have a lot of postprod and completed unrelease works (congratulations!) has also an impact on the way IMDb computes and then sorts those different entries.
In any case, you Producer entries will overcome any other one.

Are you in line with that?

Stacey you will remain the order you are in as far as Known as. As of this time there is no way to alter it. Not saying that an employee may have a date which might make it alterable. Col Needham, the founder of IMDb every morning reads the get satisfaction boards here. If he had something to say about this he would have left a message. You have a long way to go before your order will change. But it will change immediately once your directing credits exceed your acting credits.

Thank you sir. Can we get a full confirmation on that for Stacey? These word arrangements of professional jobs, along with the complexities of their order, do indeed carry an impact & significant effects. I hope that this matter will be addressed in the manner that Stacey Maltin requires it be. This kind of query is legitimate & demands proper attention, particularly concerning the careers of prominent female filmmakers. Thank you!

Hi George,

This is mostly a contributor forum, with IMDb staff popping in regularly. So I hope one will be addressing your request.
But this topic has already been raised several time here, and I do not think there are plans to change it. In any case, I personally consider there are more urgent needs to address first :)

As an objective filmmaker, who just met Stacey only two weeks ago at a film festival, I find it a very legitimate inquiry - and professional request - from Ms. Maltin.

In any case, I hope all appropriate a sense of urgency to requests like this, which carry direct consequences to the careers of working actor/directors like Stacey Maltin! I'd also urge you to reconsider your thought on this! Thank you sir.

From the short time I have been here I can confirm what Vincent said is correct. I have read that same reply from the founder of IMDb, Col Needham.

As You can see, we think of Ron as a Director. But he has 88 acting credits. That is why he is listed in the order you see above.
Actor | Producer | Director

Cool cool. This must be a slightly different experience for women now directing films while acting. What about this older white male example of past procedure doesn't suit the future of film.

Furthermore, an old rule or protocol doesn't render a new inquiry like Ms. Maltin's any less urgent. I find any dismissal of Stacey Maltin's question, or its urgency, quite embarrassing, and I consider Ms. Maltin's inquiry to be urgent -- as well as requiring a definite answer from an IMDb employee.

Stacey Maltin is a working actress/director I met by happenstance at the Buffalo International Film Festival two weeks ago, and she should be allowed to represent herself according to the jobs she is actually doing!

This isn't an especially complicated matter guys! I also find it disturbing that the first response to Ms. Maltin's inquiry completely ignored everything she carefully and thoughtfully explained.

The simple answer has been given. It is not an alterable function. Many have asked that it be. The official reply has been, it is not in the planning stages at this time. That's not saying that they don't read these concerns. They do. An employee may not reply if they read all the replies here and determine that the appropriate correct answers have been given. Rather than reply back any further, wait for a reply shortly. They may probably confirm what was said here, or shed some light on future planned changes.
Thanks
Cheers

My own 2 cents: I have been contributing to IMDb since 1996. To me IMDb is a worldwide credit repository, from all (movie) times and from all around the globe. It is fine with me if the California entertainment industry considers it a usefull tool, but California is not the world, and is not the propose this database was build on.
On this forum, you have people answering questions, who are located in the US of course but also in Britain, Denmark, France. Ukraine, India, etc.

This is my own 2 cents. From one of the almost 100 million registered users on IMDb, serving the 10 million professionals who have name pages of. It.
