I cannot go anywhere else to find an exhaustive group of opinions, views, random things noticed or in depth discussions about parts of my favorite movies.  You have done a great disservice to your users and yourself by removing one of the few things that set you apart, and above every other movie site on the planet.

It was quite a surprise to see nothing under the reviews this morning.

Have they just moved elsewhere or deleted completely ?

Gone, Sat-Elite. And they didn't even bother to post an announcement. Just removed them like cowards. You had to dig to find this board.

Ah, just seen this

No doubt the administrators were
getting sick of editing / removing posts that were unconstructive or downright damaging to the website.
I would have thought experimenting with the messageboard moving to behind the login so that it wasn't visible on the first page to all and sundry would have been a viable alternative, but I doubt this could be considered now it has been turned off.

There's got to be a way. IMDB sans the boards is a truncated, frustrating experience: Not what I want from my internet experience.

Removing the message was the worst move ever!  I can no longer read opinions and find out answers to questions I have about movies, especially foreign films.  This used to be my automatic go to site after watching a film, doc or series.  Bring back the boards please.

The problem was that the boards became so loaded with trolls that almost nothing useful could go on on them. Regular TV/Film buffs avoided them because of the trolls. I mostly stopped using them years ago because you couldn't have a decent conversation.

I don't get it, Adrian. How did the trolls prevent you from enjoying the boards? Do you stay off the roads because some drivers are jerks?

Yeah, there were trolls but the comments and insights of regular postings far outweighed negative aspects. IMDB let the bad guys win!!!!

I echo every word Dustin Matthews wrote and dearly hope someone at IMDB is reading this and takes heed. The discussion boards were the heart and soul of IMDB. Cutting them out removes the heart of the experience. Every time I'd watch a TV series epi or come home from seeing a flick, I'd dive straight into the boards, which was a perfect use of the internet. Cutting them out sets us back 20 years.

So what if there were trolls? Do we refrain from driving because there are a_sholes on the road? Yes, 90% of the comments were poorly written and / or just plain stupid. So what? Never bothered me. What I got out of the boards was worth it. I learned to identify the intelligent 10%, and it was a net win, hands down. Now IMDB is a shell of its former self.

IMDB personnel, if you're reading this, please reconsider this move. I have no doubt that it's already put a dent in the site's traffic. If the boards were labor intensive, I'm sure there are ways to make them less so. In any case I tried my best to set an example of articulately written, intelligent posting, and commit to doing so wherever I post, and hope that I’ll be able to go back to doing so at IMDB.

"Yes, 90% of the comments were poorly written and / or just plain stupid. So what? Never bothered me."

If 90% of the comments are poorly written and/or just plain stupid, something is seriously wrong. But it's probably also true that for some people it's exactly what they want. Internet is a funny place.
