High scoring episodes for some TV shows suddenly dropping rapidly?

What's going on with the scores for some shows? I've noticed for some (like Doctor Who and Supernatural) the scores for almost every high rated episode have been dropping rather dramatically (eg 9.5's to 8.9, 9.2's to 8.7's etc, with few new votes). At first I thought perhaps it's a change in the algorithm used for the scores, but if that was the case you would think it would affect all shows, yet this isn't the case.

Some examples:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0562998/ Was previous a 9.2 then one day suddenly dropped down to 8.8 and has since dropped another to 8.7

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1626753/ Was previously 9.5, suddenly dropped to 9.0 and now 8.9

I'm just curious as to what is causing this? Something I have noticed across the board of the episodes dropping fast is a sudden large increase increase is 1's from US voters. Perhaps a bot or something of that sort?

As a fellow Whovian, I find this curious. Since I have not been tracking the ratings for these episodes I can only speculate that some misguided people have been voting 1s. I've noticed that the IMDb periodically makes adjustments in who is included in the weighted average:

IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. Various filters are applied to the raw data in order to eliminate and reduce attempts at 'vote stuffing' by individuals more interested in changing the current rating of a movie than giving their true opinion of it.

The exact methods we use will not be disclosed. This should ensure that the policy remains effective. The result is a more accurate vote average.

Mhm, I think it's probably some chap spreading about 1's perhaps with various accounts, otherwise i'd expect to see this occur on more than 1 series. You would think IMDb's weighted average algorithm would be able to see a series of votes as non legitimate when an episode (like blink) rated 9.7 suddenly receives more 1's in a few weeks than it has since it's launch in 2007 :/
