Is there a way to filter my Highest Rated IMDb "Top 250" Titles You Haven't Seen by genres like a simple list?

You can do this via an advanced title search. Start at:


  • Check the box next to the desired genre (e.g. Action, Drama, Comedy).

  • Check the 'IMDb Top 250' box in the 'Title Groups' section.

  • In the 'Your Ratings' section, check the box next to 'Exclude titles I have seen'

For example, this link will display a list of all Animated films from the IMDb Top 250 list that you haven't seen/voted for:

How do I see a subset of the Top 250 by genre? For example, say I wanted to see only the action movies that are in the Top 250. I tried to click on the "Action" button on the sidebar and try to sort it by rating, but I'd gotten pages full of seasons of this or that TV show.

Indeed - a lot of problems we get here can be answered by pointing people to advanced title search. People need it when moving on from the ready-rolled parts of the site and it is one of the main ways I now use the site. My suggestion for improving navigation of the search results (which people can browse into without going through the search page) is to provide a link back up to it:
