This film is just now being released as Railroad to Hell: A Chinaman's Chance.  It has been re-edited by Dustin Ferguson and will be released by Ace Studios.  I tried creating a new page as it is a new film, but IMDb just added the correct title to this older title.  There is a new trailer and a new screener at Withoutabox under Railroad to Hell: A Chinaman's Chance and I can't figure out how to add the new trailer to this old title.  I am the publicist for Aki Aleong, an associate producer on the film and the vp of Aki Aleong's Mustard Seed Media Group. The new film will premiere at the San Diego Asian Film Festival in November 2018.  Should I create a new page for the film or how can I fix the title and the trailers on this old page?  Thank you for your help!

Hello, Donna.

Usually re-edited movies are considered the same title, however there are exceptions (I have conducted a list of such cases I'm aware of). If the edits were so severe that it is effectively a very different movie, it might need a separate page, however if core of the movie remains the same then it probably should be elaborated on in the "Alternate Versions" section.

I agree. If there is discordance between one cut and another cut of the same overall production enough that the plots, characters, settings, themes or designs are noticeably different, then the two cuts might represent two separate entities, or like the (studio-scrapped) Donner-directed Superman II versus the (studio-promoted) Lester-directed Superman II, which have the roughly same of everything but with different executions. (There's another pair of movies I'm thinking of too released in the 1970s with a female lead; one with a blue poster, and the other with a yellow poster; possibly having the same title; but I don't remember the title.)

(Side note. I remember now. They are Jag är nyfiken - en film i gult and Jag är nyfiken - en film i blått, but they don't technically have different on-screen titles, not even different release dates; so never mind.)

I tried putting in a new page since the versions are so different, but IMDb combined them.  How can I keep that from happening again?  There are so many stars and credits in this film!  Thank you for your help!

You might have to clarify, perhaps prove, that they are simply not the same movie. In due time, we will see what the IMDb staff have to express here about this specific case.

Hi Dawna -

As Jeorj and Nikolay mentioned above, when there is a new version of a film we generally list that on the existing title page as an alternate version, however, there are rare exceptions.  If the new title is significantly different from the original version (such as major runtime change, major plot/context changes, cast changes/replacements, etc.) we may consider listing the new version as a separate stand-alone title.

If you feel your title meets this criteria, please confirm with us the exact changes that were made from the original version and our editors can take another look.

Hi Michelle:  The original film was made 10 years ago in SD.  The new film has been edited by a new editor Dustin Ferguson, who is in his 30's.  It is in now in HD and has all new sound and colorization and is more than an hour shorter.  Dustin edited the film to be faster-paced and more of a Western for today's audiences, while still showing the hardships and discrimination faced by the Chinese.  Aki also wanted the film to reflect more on the racial bigotry against the Chinese in that era because he wanted to attack the discrimination in today's headlines.  I have uploaded a screener of today's film to Withoutabox.  Thank you!

Hi Dawna -

Thanks for posting the title details, I would encourage you to re-submit the new title including the above explanation within your submission for further context so our editors can easily review and identify the differences between the old title and the new title.

If the new title is not accepted then this will mean that it is not eligible for a separate listing and will instead need to be listed as an Alternate Version on the existing title page.
