How do I change my identity?

This problem seems to be based in the stickiness between IMDb and GMail. (And probably a lot more sites, like Google and f*g Facebook .)

First, I created what I thought was an "IMDb ID", linked to my GMail address. It worked once. Then I realised that all GMail mails that I sent had this "IMDb ID" as well. (PolarCircleBear@gmail.com) Of course, that was *not* what I wanted. I changed this in GMail.

Then, I commented something on a thread, and saw that my name was "sven-erik-enblom", not the nickname that I had chosen. A bit irritating, since my name seems to be unique not only in my country but in the whole world ... (And there was NO way to change the nickname!)

OK, the quick getaround is to create another mail address and use that as a basis for my persona on IMDb. It took a while ... and then it turned out that (1) I can *only* log in with that name under Firefox, and (2) my 'IMDb ID" is still the same, ie my personal name.

The new mail address is ArcticCircleBear@gmail.com (my wife pointed out that that would be the correct description). When I try to log in under that name (under W7P, SP1,  in Internet Exploder 11.0.9600.17280), I can only log in under my "real" name and the previous name that apparently went wrong on IMDb.

Now, I *really* would like to discuss some series on IMDb. But if this bonkers behaviour is typical for the IMDb site, I guess that it is best left to 13-years-old and trolls. Forget about me.

In the early 1980s, I spent a lot of time discussing things in a "teleconference" system, KOM, developed by the Swedish Defence Research Institute. That worked somewhat better.

Perhaps I should give up this stuff and just stick to personal emails. They still work, more or less.

I have no idea what most of that is supposed to mean.

That said, when you create a user account, it gives you a nick name based on your email address you used to register.

It can be change, then, to what ever you like.  You'll still see, on the screen, your real name and when you post on the boards, your name that appears is your IMDb ID.

So, while my real name is on the screen, if I post, it shows "bluesmanSF."  To change your ID, you can activate the drop down menu next to your name and choose "Site Settings."  Under "Personal Information, choose Change your IMDb ID

You'd then log in using your email and password, but if you post, you'll appear to other users as the ID you created.

Hello And sorry for your troubles.. My they have added up haven't they?

The good news is, this should be an easy fix. No matter what name/email you signed up with and/or log in with, you can change your ID you post with, very easily.

log on to IMdB and in the upper right of the black banner, at the top of the page, you will see your name, mouse over that & click "Site Settings."   On this page you will see many options one of which is Personal Information and in that box is the choice to Change You IMdB User ID

There you can select a name to display, post with etc...  That should solve the issue of having your real name, email etc displaying when you post.

I hope this helps and if this isn't what you needed, post back.

Have a grand evening.

ETA- Well crud, Sorry bluesmanSF, . LOL  We were posting at the same time again
