This problem seems to be based in the stickiness between IMDb and GMail. (And probably a lot more sites, like Google and f*g Facebook .)
First, I created what I thought was an "IMDb ID", linked to my GMail address. It worked once. Then I realised that all GMail mails that I sent had this "IMDb ID" as well. (PolarCircleBear@gmail.com) Of course, that was *not* what I wanted. I changed this in GMail.
Then, I commented something on a thread, and saw that my name was "sven-erik-enblom", not the nickname that I had chosen. A bit irritating, since my name seems to be unique not only in my country but in the whole world ... (And there was NO way to change the nickname!)
OK, the quick getaround is to create another mail address and use that as a basis for my persona on IMDb. It took a while ... and then it turned out that (1) I can *only* log in with that name under Firefox, and (2) my 'IMDb ID" is still the same, ie my personal name.
The new mail address is ArcticCircleBear@gmail.com (my wife pointed out that that would be the correct description). When I try to log in under that name (under W7P, SP1, in Internet Exploder 11.0.9600.17280), I can only log in under my "real" name and the previous name that apparently went wrong on IMDb.
Now, I *really* would like to discuss some series on IMDb. But if this bonkers behaviour is typical for the IMDb site, I guess that it is best left to 13-years-old and trolls. Forget about me.
In the early 1980s, I spent a lot of time discussing things in a "teleconference" system, KOM, developed by the Swedish Defence Research Institute. That worked somewhat better.
Perhaps I should give up this stuff and just stick to personal emails. They still work, more or less.
