Hello: I've been given credit as a producer in a documentary but I notice there are like 10 other people with with my exact name. Can someone tell me how I can distinguish myself from the others? I would like to then put in a little bio about myself. I just signed up with imdb. Thanks!

Is your credit already live on IMDb or the documentary that you are credited as a producer?

If you aren't already credited but the movie exists, you can add your credit to the documentary and use something that will make you more unique, such as a middle initial or middle name. Note, that if this is different than how the credit appeared on screen, you'll need to have an "as" attribute. For example, if you want your name listed as Mike X. Jones but you appeared as Mike Jones, you should add the credit for a producer listed as Mike X. Jones "as Mike Jones".

If the documentary isn't already listed, you probably need to add it first. I'm not sure you can just create a page without a credit attached. I've never done that before.

Hey - Thanks for the prompt reply! The documentary was released, the DVD is out and imdb does list my name...but it also says there's 8 others with the same name. So I want to just - add a suffix and an 'as' to it and give a bio about myself so people won't attribute the credit to the wrong person. Spo in a case like this - PLEEEZ tell me what I have to do. I'll follow it to the letter. (I'm new at this but I'll get it together!!)

Charles, probably what you want to do is a name change on your name page (the one that starts with nm followed by numbers). You can select edit at the bottom of the page and then select name change/merger. Then, enter the new name. Make sure you do not uncheck the check box which will maintain your "as" attributes.

Charles,

Following up on Adrian's post, for any future projects you may want to ask the people responsible for compiling credits to credit you with the name you are changing to. This should also help when submitting credits to IMDb.

I hope this helps.

Wow! This is so helpful. I think with your reply I should be straight!! What's interesting is that the director said that imdb doesn't accept nicknames. But I have a stage name that has been trademarked with the USPTO. So I want to not only add a suffix to separate me from the others - but also add an 'aka'. Now I know you said to do an 'as' but can I do an 'aka'? (I'm not in the documentary performing 'as' a character.) I have my fingers crossed HOPING you don't say I won't be able to)

Hi Charles,

As Adrian has stated, what you will want to do here is submit a name correction on your name page using the 'edit page' feature. For more information on name changes, please refer to our submission guide below.

Hey Charles,

Welcome to IMDb!

To follow up on my colleagues response, the name listed at the top of your name page should be the name which you are credited as most commonly - this doesn't have to reflect your birth name. It can be changed via the Edit Page button at the bottom of your page.

Adding a bio to your page will also make it more unique, for quick directions on how to add this  information:

Go to your current biography page at http://www.imdb.com/name/nmxxxxxxx/bio [enter you nmconst]

and click on the Edit Page button at the bottom of the page.

Select Add # Items next to the options in the Biography section that you'd like to submit to and click on Continue.

The next page will feature editable text fields where you can enter your information. Please enter your information into the fields, and click on Check these updates when done.

If the background of the window turns green it means that your changes are ready to be submitted. If it turns red or yellow it means that there is an error or warning that you need to correct or acknowledge before your update can be sent. Click on Continue to resubmit the data. Once all the data is correctly formatted and the window turns green, click on Finish.

On the last page, click Submit to send your proposed update to our editors. For more details about our processing times, please see this page:

and volume of items pending processing by data type:

Thank you for your efforts in keeping IMDb as complete and accurate as possible, and best of luck!

Hey Joel:

Thank you for trying to help me. I just added a picture to my profile and wrote a quick bio. Please walk me through this and tell me what I'm doing wrong. My name is Charles Ford, 4th. Currently I'm credited as 'Charles Ford' as Co-Producer in the documentary film entitled '1804' by film producer Tariq Nasheed. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7510790/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm. My trademarked stage name is Chäs Bronxson, which is the name people primarily know me by - but I have no problem with my birth name Charles Ford, 4th being on imdb. (Mr. Nasheed told me that imdb doesn't allow nicknames.)
Please Joel - I'll do it myself - but can you tell me what I have to do to add the suffix '4th' to the way my name appears now so it'll say 'Charles Ford, 4th' AND when people click on it they can see the bio I wrote up. This is really confusing to me. Thank you kindly, sir.

Joel - I read your response: I just want to know if there's anything else I need to know now that you know a little more about my situation. Thanks again. I'm anxiously awaiting your reply...

Are you saying that you are, or will be, credited (in the opening/end credits of the program) with suffix ”4th”? Your IMDb name will have a roman numeral to distinguish yourself from the others, but I doubt that you can add ”4th” in your name.
