This functionality is not yet supported in the Android app, sorry. We will move this to the "Idea" category for future consideration.

This is a serious flaw! Cannot write a review on the app - not even be able to thumb up a review. Why should we have an app at all, in your opinion?
Not only removing the comments, but now making it harder for people without computers to use your app/site - it's like you don't want visitors to your site anymore. Is that so?

Note: it's been 2 years since the original post and no upgrade as of yet. Sad...

I agree that it's frustrating not to be able to write a review. The moderator said that it's "not supported in the Android app", but I'm suspicious of this answer. How hard can it be to simply create a forum so people can post comments? This is just a basic functionality that exists on countless websites, and it cannot be that hard. I don't buy this explanation.

Yeah, they remove the message boards and then "We will move this to the "Idea" category for future consideration." It's like they are trying to keep us away. What's up?

I am deleting the app. I just had go on Google to search how to write a review on a REVIEW BASED app to find out that the initial reason I downloaded this app never even exists; a written review. I tell everyone imdb is better than rottentomatos and I no longer will. What a waste of time.

This is crazy! Am I correct in guessing that this is possible only on the website? Strangely, I seldom take my desktop computer to the cinema, unless of course I want to record the film on the itty bitty camera on my iMac, but even then I find the noise of the portable generator required to power the computer tends to annoy some whiny idiots. Frankly I fail to see why such anti-social assholes even go to the movies, although I do understand that the petrol fumes can make some people vomit, and pass out, I maintain that this probably would have happened regardless at that screening of LaLa Land, as I've seen people do the same with no generator in sight as soon as Ryan Gosling 'thtartth to thing!' . In short, fix this lest I am forced to come to your house & paint your dog orange. Thank you.

Ungrateful? I love the app and I depend on the information IMDB provides. The reviews seem to be a no brainer. Whoever is being an idiot making stupid and coarse remarks don’t reperesent most of us at all. Expecting to post a user review with the app is just perfectly normal. This is not an app supported by 13 year old Russians eating Cheetos in a sweatshop coding.

Amazon (the owners of the app) get a lot of valuable information from us while we use the app. That’s fine. I don’t “expect” anything other than the ability to research actors, technical people, and movies/TV show - and for that information to be accurate. Don’t get your nose out of joint just because an OBVIOUS piece of functionality is missing and people point it out. I would say fundamental. This an old and very established app run by a multi billion dollar enterprise. I think they can take a few friendly jabs for something like this. Now the morons that are posting like foul mouthed street urchins are another story. Let’s not get off track here. This is something that should have been addressed years ago.
I’m jut sayin’.

Fine. Unfortunately, the task of "upgrading" things to accommodate users in ways not done before may siphon off the technical foundation of desktop experience. That will rub desktop users the wrong way just as much as the contrary would mobile users. As it stands, the IMDb developers do not yet possess the ability to accommodate all.

You don't know what you're talking about Jeorj. This is an obvious and not difficult to create feature. As with any app - desktop, web, or mobile - its success hinges on keeping users happy and giving them the features they desire. Not doing that is sheer stupidity. So your "not entitled to a god-damned thing" comment is also stupidity. People are just trying to tell the developers what they are interested in doing and smart developers listen to their users' desires. And there is no basis in fact for you statement immediately above. Putting this feature in the mobile app is not going to "siphon off" anything. It's going to give everyone more capability and make users happier. Again, that's exactly what good developers try to do every single day.

Isn't the whole point of apps to gobble "user engagement?" Don't developers make more money when that's increased by, say, folks writing reviews?

We have been building towards this behind-the-scenes and it is being added this quarter, please see https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/upcoming-changes-to-several-imdb-features-du6man1opd5q0

If you are brave you may head over to https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/update-to-user-reviews and post the same where a community of people are determined for IMDb not to support mobile and to attack every move which makes IMDb more accessible.

I didn't see that, but there's a lot there. I did see people not happy that you've removed features they found useful. Perhaps you should be listening to the users more?

I must politely request to everybody: please count your blessings. One of the very things you love (a feature or another of IMDb perhaps) can be taken at any time. We could all stand to be a little more mindful of each others' experiences with the products in question, but that is only going to happen if we communicate and cultivate awareness. Criticism of implementation of ideas that would raise standards but which seem also long overdue is good, and petitioning accordingly, yet the continued value of older technology (often classic tech) should not be overlooked or misinterpreted.

This functionality SHOULD be supported in the Android App if anywhere. People can submit fresh reviews as soon as they leave the cinema. Or whilst the closing credits are rolling

I think it's ridiculous you can't leave a review via the APP from your smartphone! Who overlooked something so important? That's a SUPER basic functionality people! Hire a summer intern and get it done ASAP. This isn't rocket science here folks. As long as you're logged in, you should be able to not only leave a review via stars but written commentary, no matter your platform but ensure Android and Apple are the first and most important interfaces for smartphone technology. Face it, people use actual laptops and desktops less and less. I rarely use my laptop sue to the natire of my job at IBM, but most apps are accessible via my phone. That said all working generations, especially Generation X, Y & Millennials largely function in this way. So if you want to catch up and stay relevant, (because make no mistake, your technology is lagging your competitors), you'll want to get this done ASAP....like no later than summer 2017. I would NOT draw alot of attention to the new capability with update either. This should have BEEN done four years ago. This is the perfect intern team assignment for all smartphone and tablet platforms. Contact the GEM Consortium or the INROADS program should you be fresh out of quality, capable ínterns awaiting placement. SWE, aises or BDPA are great resources as they have already done MOST of the work in sourcing the best candidates, Update your site more wholly, significantly and thoughtfully or people WILL find another source to satisfy their needs in this very competitive environment . You don't have the luxury to lag the market on basics such as this. I hope this feedback motivates you to act MORE proactively going forward and helps you gain a competitive advantage in this space.

I just tried to write a review from my phone and couldn't. I could only leave a star rating. The answers to your question, while not solving the problem, were useful, so thanks for your post. And it is a real PITA to log in via computer....hopefully they can do something about that, too!

You CAN on iOS (possibly android too!)in any of these 2 ways:

1. If you go to the IMDb website on safari and press the little box with the arrow on the film you want to write the review on it comes up with a pop up, scroll along till you find "Request Desktop Site" press that and now you have the desktop page instead of the mobile page, meaning you can write reviews!
2. (I think this is on android too) Download the Puffin Browser free app, when it asks you if you want to use the app as a mobile or a desktop browser choose desktop and go on IMDb through that and you can write your reviews through that

Oh and IMDb doesn't let you write reviews through their app

Cmon get real and add review functionality to the app. Desktops are becoming a thing of the past in many households and more is being done on smartphones.
The lack of ability to review in app must be seriously affecting the amount of reviews.

Why do you make it so ... mind bogglingly hard to write a review? I just spent half an hour searching for that facility on the app only to end up on this weird forum. You must have a reason for discouraging user reviews I'd like to know how you justify it? (Sorry to users if this forum is not monitored by IMDB)

OK... here’s the deal... the question is MAKE THE ABILITY TO WRITE A REVIEW PART OF THE APP. Scrolling to the bottom of the page and poking through OUT OF THE APP means the functionality IS NOT THERE.
It should be a button or click of any kind right at the user review block of the movie.

I love IMdB but can’t believe that this feature is taking so long to reach the APP.
Customer focused and all that. Will look forward to it in Q1 until the priority changes and it’s back to Q2/3.

While on the topic of user reviews can you develop some form of punishment when people use the phrase ‘Meh’ or ‘That’s 2 & half hours of my life....blah blah blah’. Perhaps a small electric shock administered through the phone or laptop. Get those Eureka people on the case.
Like the ‘Meh’ brigade would have found a cure for cancer or invented time travel instead.
Mindless action movies should not be confused with ‘The Unbearable Lightness of Being’ so easy on the focus on realism or the cries of ‘Oh the characters lack depth or dimension.’ FFS listen to yourself! Then, pack your shit, get up and get over yourself on the way to the exit and leave the rest of us free from your self righteous ‘Worst movie ever’ BS. By now there must be approaching 200000 ‘worst movie ever’ according to IMDB readers. I dunno....maybe it’s a multi-dimensional reality thing.
