How exact would IMDb like credits submitted?

A question which would affect my future submissions. How exact would you like crew credits submitted? I've previously been under the impression that IMDb prefers to show credits exactly as they were shown in the film itself. However I've had multiple submissions which attempt to do this declined (although some have been accepted, it seems random what gets a yes and what gets a no). For example I recently tried changing someone's credit that currently says "lighting director" to the "director of lighting" which is displayed in the end credits. It's been declined twice now though. I'm presuming it's on the basis of "lighting director" is the same job, so it's all semantics. If the wording doesn't matter, then in future submissions I needn't be so concerned with typing things exactly as shown, I can simply choose the nearest equivilant in the drop-down lists. Let me know if this is what you'd prefer as it would save me from posting more "why was this declined?" messages than I already do :-D

Without knowing much about the actual production, I would say that ”director of lighting” is probably a bit rare and IMDb might be cautious because of that. ”Lighting director” is at least a bit more common (at least related to stage work etc).

Best way is to provide a screenshot of the actual credits, that should speed-up the process.

I did. Well, not a screenshot, but I provided a link to a copy of the title in question on YouTube (to the timecode the credit appeared). It's a 40 year old documentary film.

Hi Nick -

Can you confirm if your most recent credit submission (including the linked evidence) was approved?  If not, can you post the related submission reference number here for our staff to take a look?
