Hi guys! I need to add a credit in a tv series my company owns, stating the name of the writer of the original idea. When I try to do that, it says I need to give credit to an specific episode and doesn't load my episode list (which is already created). Only the original idea was written by this person, not the final product. Anyone can help me with this? thanks!

Hello Contata.

Usually, author of an original idea for a TV series is credited in every single episode and therefore should be added to every single episode according to what main titles/end credits say. Quite often such person receives "created by" credit and some royalties. Can you, pleases clarify whether it is such a case or something else?

Thank you for the quick reply Nikolay. The author actually just sold us the original idea, but once we acquired the rights, there were changes in the storyline and development. The credit negotiated was just "original idea by" and not "created by". Is it fair to the writers who adapted and wrote the series to share the credit of each episode with someone that only had the original idea which the series was based on?

It is fair by most regulations and is a standard procedure. No matter how much of thar original idea is left in the finished episodes, if it is credited on every single episode it should also be listed on IMDb on every single episode.

There are odd cases of this rule not being in place, such as "M*A*S*H", which only lists Richard Hooker who created the original idea and most of the characters in the Pilot episode. On IMDb he is still listed on every single episode, because no matter how far from the source the show got, it used characters and setup created by Hooker in every single episode.

To Contato Formata,

From what you've described, there may be a button you need to click to see the episode list. If you are submitting the writing credit from the main title page, make sure you've clicked the following symbol to the right of the Episodes box (). A drop-down menu will appear with a list of the episode titles.

The credit should be submitted in the form this way:

Name
Last Name, First name

Episodes
(Click each episode title from the drop-down menu as needed. Do not click the Series Level button.)

Attribute
original idea by
(As Nikolay has mentioned, an original idea credit is considered a writing credit.)

I hope this helps. Please write back if you need any more assistance submitting the data.
